2 user 1 macbook question...

so my wife and I have different accounts on our new macbook. When i download something or save something, it saves in my user. But if she wants it, she has to save it in her user. that will take up double memory. How can I have 1 thing working on both users...

for example, i want to install microsoft office. if i do, it will be in my user, not hers...unless she installs it too.

no, it will be in both profiles as will music as long as you allow for folder sharing. its no different than a PC in that regard.

When you install something it should give access to all users. It goes in the Applications folder, just make sure everyone has the right access. "Right Click on applications folder", "Get Info", "Sharing & Permission" - set user to Read & write access. If you want to share files and music. Do the same thing to the folder. Give the user read and write access.

as gotza said, applications will not need to be installed on both users.

Any data, however, will have to be stored in a shared folder to be accessed by both users. There is one by default in [local HD]/Users/Shared (where [local HD] is whatever you have named your Mac OSX partition). Whatever you store in this directory will be available to both users.

If you would prefer to not store a bunch of stuff there, you can also set a different folder to be a "shared" folder by selecting it, choose "Get Info", and at the bottom are your sharing options. You can choose on a user-by-user basis, or set it globaly. You can also choose between Read-Only, Write-Only, or Read & Write.
