See the attached picture. Yesterday, the phone was not receiving calls (they would show up as missed calls).

Then at home I noticed I was on the 3g and not my home wifi. Double checked the wifi. Working fine.

Reboot the phone (home key and power), cleared the Safari cache, reset the network settings, etc. Did everything but wipe the phone.

WiFi is greyed out and says No Wifi.

All day today, have yet to receive a call yet it shows missed calls.

I am thinking it is hardware, and saw some old posts on the topic and thought I would see if anyone had this issue recently.

This iphone is a replacement as the mute switch fell off my original one. I wonder if the Apple store gave me a refurb that was not fixed properly.

On the phone with iphone support to see if they will mail me a phone free to swap out.

Make that appointment with Apple. Your WiFi card is dead.

Oh, and if you are JB'd, I would make sure to restore to 2.1.

Not JB'd, but I called the Apple Support line. They are overnighting a phone and waived the $29.95 fee since this is my 4th iphone. I was not looking forward to going to the Mall the weekend before Christmas to swap it out.

The WiFi may be dead, but the phone does not recognize incoming calls. Or just does not ring. I cannot pinpoint it as it does ring when I call from my office land line. Wife is out shopping and no calls get through. I get the display showing missed call though.

That sounds like your communication card is about to completely fry. How is BT ?

I'll hazzard the guess that the commuications board was not properly heat shielded, due to Apple not seeing the possibility of the batteries getting hot enough to damage anything.
Unfortunately, once you start down that road of the phone getting hot, you really don't have many alternatives, as it's going to die. Probably just outside of your warranty like mine did.
