View Full Version : Will Incase Slider work w/ Agent 19 Dock Insert?

I have an Incase Slider Case (black matte) for my iPhone 3G. My goal is to be able to dock the phone easily... and also have a hard case.

1) I first bought the Agent 18 case from the Apple store because it comes with a universal dock insert that can be used with the case installed.

2) I read here that the case scratches the iPhone... so I returned it and bought an Incase Slider (matte black). I chose this because the bottom slides off, and can be used with either the universal or 3G dock.

3) I have determined that taking off the bottom of the Incase slider is too much of a PITA to keep doing each time I want to dock.

4) I also tried docking it a Griffin PowerDock2 (dual dock base) without any adapter installed. It works, but of course it then has a loose fit... and takes a bit of extra care when lining up the phone to insert into the dock. I think I would prefer to have a better fit if possible.

I am wondering if I buy an Agent 18 dock adapter (available on their website)... if it would work OK with the Incase Slider case. Does anyone have any experience? Any other suggestions?

I'll reply to my own post. I picked up an Agent 18 case (and dock insert) to check this out. The Agent 18 dock insert does NOT work with the Incase slider case. I might try attacking it with a dremel tool and see if I cant enough material removed to allow the insert to work.

I am disappointed. I tried the Agent 18 case and I was unimpressed. The Incase slider feels MUCH better.

Success!!!

Last night I modified an insert for the Apple Universal Dock and now my InCase Slider is the perfect case (for me).

1) I started with the #10 insert, which is the one made for the 160GB Ipod Classic. This was the best for the "thickness" of the iPhone when in the case.

2) I then used a Dremel tool to make the opening wider so that the case could fit in width wise. Once completed, the iPhone could be docked... but there is still a problem... because it does not seat deep enough into the dock to make contact.

3) I then used the Dremel to remove most of the bottom of the dock insert... which allows the iPhone to sit deeper into the dock. This is the final step.

I wrote to Incase Design to see if they are planning to offer a pre-made dock insert for their slider case. No reply yet.

Below are some lousy pics that I just too using the iPhone camera.
