Look I didn't test this myself quite yet.
http://www.ukphoneshop.com/news/mobile-phone-unlocking/any-network-release-unlocking-for-iphone-3g-22-with-baseband-update/1035/
Though I did just order a couple of them. (PAYPAL) I'll come back in 3 days (Wednesday 17th December '08 I'll return) to tell you if they worked - priority shipping! From ALL the exhaustive research I've done, this is the ONLY one so far that actually genuinely works!
ON ANY BASEBAND WHATSOEVER!!
NOW, I'm officially excited! Woot!!
:laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:
Calm down, calm down - you need actual proof first. You need physical proof! :laugh2:
--------------------------------------
FOR THE RECORD: These bastards (http://www.unlockediphone.info/) (unlockediphone(dot)info) LIED! Even before the thing arrived I contacted support to ask and they said it won't work on 02.28.00 "not yet, we're working on it :)" BASTARDS!!!
It clearly states on the site 2.2 compatible, on all basebands. And I'm not paraphrasing.
I hate liars.
UnlockediPhone(dot)info? **** you!
I don't see the bit about the firmware/baseband in their FAQ's over on their site now. Hmm... Removed it have we? Sneaky.
--------------------------------------
Update: V3 is due to arrive on Friday, possibly even tomorrow. I will report back! Apologies for saying the F-word the last time.

Wow man!:foot:
-I heard that the devteam is gonna release the iPhone 3G unlock christmas eve as there gift to all iPhone 3G users:wink:
1. your words don't make any sense
2. Calm down, once gphones become more popular the general masses will have more access to our sweet programs than we could ever hope.
Be suspicious of any product where the website that offers it won't tell you how much it is until you've almost committed to buying it or if all the comments about it look like an FAQs that have been cleverly disguised as testimonials.
I didn't see anything on that site that said how much the thing was and most of the comments were things like:
Comment: "So, all I have to do is buy this thing and my entire world will become full of sunshine?"
Response: "Yes, all you have to buy this and your world will be bright and sunny."
Sorry you got ripped off.
Edit: I went back and read the comments and they weren't all like that, but still...the whole thing sounded fishy to me.

NOT ON 02.28.00 they didn't (baseband/firmware - viewable in Settings > General > About)
The Dev Team doesn't recommend TubroSIM cards like "V3", but I used one with my iPhone 2G for over a year just fine.
I have ordered a V3, so we'll see if it works on 02.28.00, the reports right now say it does.
I should have it before Friday.

I have 1 2G iPhone and 2 3G iPhones. I am talking about the 3G.
I take it you didn't look at the name of this thread? I could NOT have made it clearer. I was full sure I went overboard with all the bold font and exclamation marks, but it would appear not.

I just checked their website (http://www.any-network.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&category_id=3&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=14&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=1). They say they have worked out the unlock for 2.28.00. Am I missing something here?
iPhone 3g unlock device V3.
This device is made for the iphone 3g on any apple firmware or Baseband update including the latest 2.2 firmware with 2.28.00 baseband the device will also work with all other versions of the iPhone regardless od what firmware you are on.

i wouldn't trust anyone but the dev-team for a 3g soft unlock they have shown themselves reliable by releasing quikpwn that wrks for the new firmware as soon as the firmware is released the were able to jailbrake 2.2 before it was released to the public these guys will get the 3g unlock just give them time

I'm going to stop you there. This is not a soft unlock. It's a hardware unlock. It's different. i.e. I used it (well a slightly different chip) on my 2G iPhone for 14 months. If I was waiting around for the dev team every time I could never use my phone. They are good, but they are certainly not the only solution.
When 2.2 came out for the iPhone (I'm still using my 2G currently, I own 2 3G's though - ones for someone else) I updated through iTunes and was able to continue to make phone calls, just like normal - when I visited digg I could hear *****ing: "when will there be a 2.2 2G unlock?", at which point I could only chuckle, I'm was on 2.2 before the Dev team even had started to work on their soft unlock - you get me?
For me, where the Dev Team come in handy is if for some reason I want to jailbreak my iPhone.

SIM tray broke inside iPhone 3G. Any-Network sent 1 chip instead of 2, I ordered two. TurboSIM didn't work, not sure if that was because they lied that it worked on my baseband, wouldn't surprise me, or that is came lose, which it did. It's now stuck with my SIM inside my iPhone, and I cannot get it out :(. And to top it all off, the DEV Team's supposed DFU fix messed up my iMac. Luckily I back up via Time Machine, but I still spent several hours restoring and waiting and waiting. Not a good day at all.

There's a soft unlock for baseband 2:28 now, you need to upgrade to 2.2 "USING iTUNES", jailbreak with QuickPWN, add the Yellowsn0w source to Installer or Cydia and install Yellowsn0w.
This is all you have to do, then you can install any SIM card you want. Good luck! If the SIM doesn't come on line within two minutes, trying taking you SIM out, restarting your iPhone and putting the SIM back in. If this doesn't work, leave your SIM in the iPhone, turn it off completely for a minute or two, restart the iPhone and wait for another minute. It should work first time, but you might need to do some fiddling like this. Try a few different way, SIM card out, SIM card in etc. You'll get it eventually. Not all SIM cards are guaranteed, but 99% of the them should work eventually.
Now, I have said all I know. Please don't expect any more responses.
