There's no perfect 3g case - YET

I have tried heaps and heaps of cases to protect my beloved iPhone (ok yeah I'm a fanboi :) ) but they all lack in some area. Some are great but leave a part of the phone exposed to damage. Some are just so convaluted that there ridiculous.

I just want the perfect case so I can relax and chill and stop this search!!!!!

I have the slider from Incase, and so far, it's been a winner. Had one for my 1st gen, and now for my 3G. The only other case I find is close is the Seidio Innocase 2.

It seems there will never be a perfect case. But the closest to perfect would undoubtedly be the Innocase II by Seidio. See below thread for a bunch of pics.

One man's perfect is another man's "yuck". No case is "the perfect" case, for everyone. The following is my idea of perfect, but I'll admit it's yet to arrive here...

This is the case I ordered: iLounge Review (http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/reviews/entry/miniot-iwood-3g-with-dock/)

Shame I can't even link directly to the site's website (https://www.miniot.com/miniot/index.php), as iLounge has far better photos of their product. Go figure!? Comes in 6 types of woods. I debated it for a while - I ordered "Cherry" with a dock, woot!

Word on the street - "beautiful" :laugh2:

if you're not getting a case for protection, then why bother? Does the iPhone 3g not look good enough on its own?

I agree, there is NO perfect case. If someone can make a case with the form factor of the Seidio Innocase II (I love how thin it is), and the protection of the Ivyskin Quattro T4 (which I am using now), I'd be thrilled ! If it were thin, and could fit in the Seidio Holster, which I love, and think is the best holster bar none. (the Ivyskin holster for the Quattros is complete crap!), I would have no problem spending $60 or more for such a combo.

I received my iWood 3G Today, I sent them 'some' ;) feedback:

1. The (wooden) volume buttons are "WAY" to difficult to push. I AM NOT THE INCREDIBLE HULK!

----------------------------

2. The (wooden) Sleep/Wake button is "PERFECT". It feels just right. WHAT A RELIEF, PHEW! Good job on that!

EDIT: If it was a little easier to push I wouldn't complain.

----------------------------

3. The case is TOO "slippery. I can see myself dropping my iPhone out of my hand with this case on it. If I do I will be angry. I suggest you think about this when doing a redesign. I will not recommend this case to anyone until I see a redesign. ALSO: Could I suggest you offer your current iWood 3G customers a "discount" if they want to buy a "REDESIGNED" iWood 3G?

----------------------------

4. THE DOCK? The dock needs to be redesigned also. The only reason to bother buying the dock is for docking-convenience. TO SAVE TIME AND PHYSICAL ENERGY. You 'currently' have to remove the iPod cable from the dock, put it into the iPhone, and then re-dock. This defeats the purpose of the dock completely. The problem: The 20 pin iPod connector (on the cable) goes down too far inside the dock, there's nothing to force it into the iPhone 3G - no matter how hard you press the phone down onto the dock, it simply pushes the cable DOWN INSIDE THE DOCK. There needs to be a 'STOP' inside the dock, so the cable is forced to go into the iPhone port when the iPhone is pushed down onto the dock by the user.

----------------------------

5. I cannot reach the Silent/Ringer switch, the iWood 3G frame is in the way. I have regular fingers, NOT FAT, but have no nails, the case is badly designed right there. I am going to have to file the wood down to get at this button, and this makes me sad - as the case looks SO VERY PRETTY.

----------------------------

6. I appreciate that the case is hard to take apart so it doesn't fall off the iPhone, but I think you went too far. IT'S PRACTICALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO REMOVE THE CASE. The case locking mechanism should be slightly redesigned in my opinion.

EDIT: This was fear on my part, the wood feels so light I was convinced it would break (if you owned one you'd know what I mean), if you give it a proper pull it comes apart fine. The trick is "no fear".

----------------------------

I hope you guys take in all that feedback, I am been as honest as I can. I appreciate all the hard work you must have done to make this case, I bought this case because IT'S CLEARLY THE MOST BEAUTIFUL IPHONE 3G CASE YOU CAN GET. But I am a little let down. For the high price I paid, a few things about this case just aren't GOOD ENOUGH in my opinion. The camera hole is a little off-line for example, another little thing that takes away from a case that looks so pleasing to the eye.

MY RATING: C-

Thank you.

I ordered this case and tried it out. I wore it on my belt and my arm or shirt sleeve would frequently catch on the flap and pull it open. It was annoying and I was concerned one of my credit cards might fall out so I returned it. Other than that it was a nice case.

I had this happen twice when getting out of my car. The seat belt some how caught the case and the phone popped out. I liked the case so much that I just started wearing it on my right side.

I keep it in my pocket, I'm not the hip-holster, belt-clip type. With the phone in the case I have grabbed the flap (case open) and shaken violently and my phone didn't move a mm. It's very solid, sorry you had a different experience...

I just made a post how I used a Dremel tool to modify a dock insert which now allows me to dock my InCase Slider case without removing the case. For me... this makes the slider the perfect case for my needs.

I love the thinness of the slider... and I especially like the "soft" almost rubber-like finish even though it is a hard case. Being able to dock it without removing the bottom made this case perfect for me!!!

The perfect iPhone case is such a subjective decision. As others have noticed it really depends on how *you* use your iPhone and if you want protection, style, and/or utility out of your case. I've tried a bunch of different cases myself, and the Incase Slider is the one that suits me the best - I get quick access to the screen, good drop protection, access to all the buttons, and an easy way to dock it. To each her own...

@Ireland3G: I've seen those Miniot cases and thought they looked pretty neat, though not quite my style. That was a good overview of what you liked and didn't like and it was nice of you to provide feedback to them on your experiences.

I would love something that was leather, smart looking and protected the screen.
It seems like just about all cases leave the most vulnerable part of the iPhone - the screen, totally exposed.
The leather flips that I have seen and bought cover the screen, but for some stupid reason they usually leave two or sometime four! of the corners of the iPhone exposed to damage in the case of a fall onto concrete.

just to quote again, i got this case in the mail today and WOW am i impressed. high quality leather, the magnetic shut is awesome. holds the iphone in there solid, with 2 cc slots (i have cc, id, school id and cash) in them and it is awesome. i HIGHLY recommend this case if you want something that looks professional and is very protective as well as functional. the only issue i see is the flap gets in the way when taking pics, but i will just hold it up if taking a quick pic or take the iphone out (not hard to do) if taking several. i had high expectations for this case but it has exceeded all of them. i will take pics and upload them soon.

You'd have to drop the Vaja at the perfect angle for the phone to be damaged on the *one* exposed corner, it'd be hard to accomplish, seriously.

That's funny. Murphy's Law all but guarantees that the phone will hit one of the exposed corners. Always did with mine. It looks nice and sophisticated, but in all honesty, just not practical for everyday use. My wife got me mine for my birthday, and she and I both regret it HEAVILY. It's just costs too much money for what it is, what can happen, and how long it takes to get it.

I use it everyday, and it is very practical. Best case I've owned by far, and I've bought 17 different iphone 3g cases. Almost everyone who has purchased Vaja cases feels the same, of course by "almost" I mean you. Search youtube, these are quality products...

DON'T ****ING DROP YOUR IPHONE!!!!!!

if you are an idiot and careless with your iphone, nothing except a bulky/ugly and nonfunctional case will help you.

yes it has both.

case isn't bad at all, i have my iphone in it (obviously), 1 credit card, my DL, and my UofM student ID, along with usually 100 in cash. i always keep it in my front pocket and i would say fully loaded the case is maybe 2/3 of an inch to 3/4. most of it is padding though on top and really is not bulky at all. just the fact that this case eliminates a wallet for me while holding my iphone is enough for me. add on the fact that it looks sweet and protects my iphone just adds to it. i have had this case for about a week and i have already gotten numerous compliments and questions about it in public from perfect strangers.

PepeRB29

yah but a plate, glass, or mug doesn't serve nearly the same purpose, or cost as much as the iphone. **** does happen, and i broke my V1 iphone when my sister hit it out of my hand in vegas, but you know what, the good case i had didn't save it, and no case probably would have saved it. so to base buying a case on the mere fact that it will protect your iphone in ALL situations is retarded. just don't drop it, i've had my 3g since july and i haven't dropped it once, just takes attention to detail.

Pepe I have the same case. I love it. The only thing I can criticize about the case is the leather just below the home button has a slight "tent effect" from the magnets pulling it up just as they release.
The case is awesome and the protection is awesome. The leather is very supple and when you open it the top just flops over.
I got the black one (I agonised over the two tone black and tan) and I got the green for my wife. I'm happy with the solid black and my wife adores the green.

You should take a look at this one then.
I agree that choosing a case depends on how you use your iphone.
I personally want to be able to use the iphone in its naked state as its an aesthetically attractive piece of gadget. Therefore I wanted a case that would allow me to easily and quickly remove the iphone from a case whenever I needed it. At the same time I wanted a cover/pouch that was aesthetically well designed and leather. After weeks of looking everwhere including the internet I found and purchased the ikonicedge super-slim, a 100% leather pouch thats handmade in New Zealand. This simply is a superbly handcrafted product and its a steal at $39.95 including worldwide delivery. The leather is thick and truly protects the iphone unlike the 1mm thick leather you get from a Sena case. http://www.ikonicedge.com/

One case you want to avoid is the Capsule Neo case by Switcheasy for an 3G iPhone
About 2 months ago I purchased one and part of the case broke at the bottom of the phone. Switcheasy's response was go back to the retailer, Amazon.com for a replacement. They didn't have decency to stand behind their own product and just send the replacement part.

Won't the magnets on your leather case Pepe affect the phone signal or anything? That case looks awesome btw.

Power Support Air Jacket. Fits so nice feels like I don't have a case on :).

I had a ikonicedge (http://www.ikonicedge.com) Super-Slim. They're a hand made leather pouch from New Zealand. Absolutely quality....Anyway they've just introduced a great new pouch for anyone who wants a very slim pouch that combines a credit card/money pocket. Personally I was originally looking for this but couldn't find anything in a compact design. I'd recommend this to those leather lovers who like the natural look. I love its rustic soft look.

That's a good looking case, but unless it's easy to remove the phone, I see it more as a hindrance. (and if it's easy to come out, then I would worry about it slipping out of the case.
Also doesn't look like it protects the open end if you dropped it.

That New Zealand company are just massive spam merchants who trawl through all iPhone websites looking for iPhone case threads to shill.

Marware sports grip with invisibleshield. Or try something from otterbox.

After wearing out 2 Incase leather cases I set out to design a better mousetrap. These cases are built to last. The all leather design will outlast your phone.

Word on the street - "beautiful" :laugh2:

i want one!

Even though it's kinda expensive for what you get, I will be ordering the Power Support Air Jacket (clear). I know it doesn't offer much in terms of protection--especially from drops, but what I want most is scratch protection for the back of my 3G S (if the damn thing would ever ship, that is...grrr). And I want minimal bulk.
