My wife got my iPhone v1 when I upgraded to the 3G. It's almost a year now and the speaker (sometimes) gives a bad rasping sound. Like a blown or damaged speaker.
1. Is that grounds for warranty?
2. What do they do for v1 warranties now? Give you a refurb v1? Give you a refurb 3G or give you a credit towards another iPhone?
The phone was purchased at an Apple store.
Thanks for any help.

1. Sounds like it could be. You might want to try a restore first (that is probably what Apple will do).
2. The last I heard, there were still V1 refurbs in stock. If not, they would most likely send it off the be refurbed.

A friend of mine took his first generation iPhone into Apple a couple of weeks ago and they replaced it with the same type of phone (first generation). I can't tell if it was a refurb or not. I guess it would have to be since they sold out of these phones back in the spring, right?

Apple may have held some back for replacements, but I would guess there is nothing left but refurbs now.
