..To be jailbreaked or not to be jailbreaked - that's the question!

I know you guys with a jailbreaked iPhone have Installer/Cydia, and have some awesome apps that non jailbreaked donīt have - but:

1. If you could live without themes
2. Live without Bossprefs and other utilities

Is it then worth jailbreaking my iPhone 3G 2.2?

I had an iPhone V1 1.1.4 with jailbreak, but it went totally blank screen/death after 8 months. Now I have my new 3G, - I really donīt know if I should take my chance and jailbreak it!?

Any advice on this one?

I could live without BossPrefs (which has now been replaced by SBSettings) and other apps. Those are just some nice additions. What I need is theming (and I mean full theming, not just icons) and video recording. Bring that to the iPhone, Apple, and I go stock.

I decided to get out of the whole 'wait for unlock/jailbreak solution' cycle and buy an unlocked 3G.

Whilst I could jailbreak it (there's always a risk), so far I haven't.

I've still got my unlocked/jailbroken 2G and the only thing I miss is Cycorder.

Even then, without the ability to email/upload the video it's not really worth jailbreaking for.

I used to customise but it became tiresome constantly creating icons for new apps and added little value for me.

If the appstore wasn't around then I'd jailbreak, no question, but with apps costing next to nothing and the everpresent risk to the iPhone of jailbreaking (however small), being to stay current all the time with firmware is the way to go for me.

If Apple let me theme and change tones I wouldn't jailbreak. I could live without the jailbroken apps.

I'm perfectly happy with a stock phone and a few App Store apps. I used to like themes but I guess I outgrew them so as long as everything works like it should, I'm content.

Thanks guys - I think you all got some really good points here!

Personally I only missed the cool wallpaper and custom icons on the Springboard. Iīm very happy with AppStore so far, and Iīm sure that Apple will come up with some great Firmware features soon - Copy/Paste, Video recorder etc.

I also like to push the "update Firmware button" in iTunes...

...more inputs from others are more than welcome!

You can't have a Video recorder, either without jailbreking. That's the deal breaker for me. As far as your "screen of death" I really don't think jailbreaking had ANYTHING to do with that. 99% of the people around here that know anything about the process of jailbreaking will agree with me. As a matter of fact, I have NEVER heard of a phone being bricked because of jailbreaking. You just had a lemon or sweat like a pig or something to break it..lol. I say jailbreak. If you don't like it, restore.

obviosly I only hack my phones because of the custozation that jailbreaking allows. Yea if apple where Togo ahead and give of a little more freedom but untill they do I will hack. It only gets more safe and easy as we go. It's def not getting harder. LOL.

I think Youīre right about my old "bricked" iPhone...

Anyway - I read around the internet, that (some) people have big troubles with jailbreaking 2.2 - no Wi-fi, apps crashing etc. What about you?

Mine was fine. And if you do have trouble, well then in ten mins you can be back to the quite stable and responsive 2.2. All this "should I or shouldn't I" is really overkill. Just try it Just do it. Do it. Do it.
Go here. http://www.quickpwn.com/2008/11/quic...d-windows.html (http://www.quickpwn.com/2008/11/quickpwn-22-jailbreak-download-windows.html)

Press the main link to download the quikpwn file. It will take you to zshare. Press to download and when windows gives you the SAVE or RUN option, run it instead of saving it to your desktop..

Of course make sure you already have 2.2 downloaded. And updated to the iphone.

Maybe Iīll give it a try - if youīre saying that nothing wrong will happen with my original firmware if/when I go back...? I sure miss these fancy icons and walls behind them...
