a week ago or so i was showing a colleague how to configure his iPhone to receive Exchange mail.... so i went into settings, mail, account info, etc... and while doing so i received a prompt that said something like, you won't continue receiving new mail unless you set a new passcode...
i followed the prompts to set a new passcode and all was well... as i did so it didn't occur to me that while it asked for my old passcode in the numeric "phone" format that you see when challenged for your passcode after autolock... it asked for a new passcode on a qwerty formatted keyboard...
not long after having done so... my phone auto-locked and upon accessing it i was prompted for my passcode on the numeric only "phone" formatted keypad... i had just entered a passcode with alpha characters from a qwerty keyboard... i freaked out!!
oddly enough, my old passcode worked fine... and now here comes the weird part... 2x since then... it won't allow me to access the iPhone using my "old" passcode... and i can't use the alpha (letter based) code that i entered while demonstrating the Exchange mail setup to my colleague... i even tried translating the letters into their number equivalents on the keypad... no dice either...
out of curiosity, i went to change my passcode again... hoping to sync the passcodes up... when i do so... it challenges me for my old passcode first (on the numeric "phone style" keypad) and then asks for a new passcode on a qwerty keyboard...
i thought it might be somehow related to where i was (which network i was connected to) when i changed the password but the old passcode has worked both at the office, as well as at home... it's like i just have to let the iPhone sit unused for awhile and eventually it allows me in with the same old code that it also tells me (intermittently) is the wrong code..
luckily i have a BB as well as the iPhone so when the iPhone is not letting me in... i have my BB to fall back on..
anyone experience anything like this?
p.s. and no, i'm not hitting the eggnog hard when this happens! : )
