What features will you be using the most on your new iPhone? I'm not a heavy cell phone user so I will get the cheapest plan. But I will use my new iPhone mostly for web surfing, apps, and gaming. Secondary, will be the video and camera.

This way I won't have to worry about song/video storage as there will be plenty of room. A friend of mine has the original iPhone and has been waiting to upgrade. I guess the wait will be worth it for him.

Anyone ever think Apple will allow 3rd party apps like Cydia to be approved for the App store?

I don't know if the OS itself will specifically improve anything on the current phone in that regard, but the increased processor on the new hardware will make it feel more like "switching" apps instead of "loading" them.

Load times and transitions seem sliiiightly faster at times in 3.0, but it's nothing to write home about.

I agree. I was just speaking to my coworker who said he doesn't want a smartphone and has no use for an iPhone. He's a MAC user so not sure why he'd say that. He said it was bulky and doesn't want to use a brick for a phone. There are worse phones out there and the iPhone is hardly bulky to me, unless you get some huge case to put it in.

I could never go back to the traditional style cell phone. I do believe over the next several years, smartphones will be the way to go.

I went there yesterday just to check it out with the intention of getting a new nano... I didn't because the guy told me I can get 10% off if I turn my old one in but I couldnt remember if I saved the songs or not.

Anyways, counting down the days and I questioned a sales clerk in there (there are seriously like 50 people on the floor) and he pleaded the 5th... and advice me to wait til monday blah blah.

I know last year I bounced between two different blogs. I think one was Slashgear and the other was Gizmodo. I dropped Slashgear and went with the other blog. Fortunately, in the beginning of the presentations they are rather boring so you can try different blogs and see which is better. I would go with those that update quickly, and show lots of pictures. I know there are some that update every 60 seconds.

That new image is not symmetrical at all. The earpiece does not line up with the home button, and the top and bottom of the phone are not parallel. Someone drew grid lines to demonstrate this:

That would be nice to have the dock showing all the time and it would be nice if those apps on the dock could be used without leaving the app that you are using. Like to answer a text tapping messages would open it in the area you are currently using to compose the text then tap the messages icon again to close the app and go back to what you were doing.
Although I still doubt it.

I just returned from Best Buy. There was no one there much to my surprise. The BB sales person told me they only had 1 Pre for sale today. I asked to see the demo and got to hold it in my hands and check out the hardware. It wasn't functional. What impressed me is that the screen did look larger in person, and very clear. It is much sleeker than I expected from online pictures and much darker looking. It also feels great in the hand. But the biggest disappointment were the keys. They are incredibly small, much more than I imagined them to be, and I have small hands and slender fingers too.

Wow I knew they were going to have limited quantities, but 1 are they serious. That's just a joke unless you mean they only had 1 left. How do they expect to sell them. LOL..yes, quite small indeed. Actually this store is over by UCLA so they have a lot of students in that area.

We will find out more about OS 3.0 on monday including the release date. But it has been rumored to possibly come out on monday with either a beta update or maybe even the full version.

3.0 Beta 5 expires the 19th of this month and they usually give us 10 days to update, so I am pretty sure we will see something this monday at WWDC. Yeah I think beta 5 has a few bugs that will hopefully be addressed by the final release, but overall it is faster and is performing very well.

I just returned from Best Buy. There was no one there much to my surprise. The BB sales person told me they only had 1 Pre for sale today. I asked to see the demo and got to hold it in my hands and check out the hardware. It wasn't functional. What impressed me is that the screen did look larger in person, and very clear. It is much sleeker than I expected from online pictures and much darker looking. It also feels great in the hand. But the biggest disappointment were the keys. They are incredibly small, much more than I imagined them to be, and I have small hands and slender fingers too.

That shows the big difference between the iphone with at&t and the pre with sprint. Every at&t store and best buy I have been in has at least 2 working iphones to play with and the customer service reps are helpful and nice. And of course the apple stores have working models of everything they sell with great cs reps. I bet there hasn't even been a fake model made of the iphone other than that human sized one in most apple store windows. Apple will always have a model on display where ever they sell the iphone, that's just apple they want you to use the product that's how great it is. Palms pre not so much so they'd rather your only options be to buy one, use a friends(if you even have any that care about it) or buy it. Also sprint was the wrong choice for a company with money problems. They have never advertised the phone and what it does on any commercials, sprint is the one who does and they don't show anything off. Apple all around knows how to run a business and it shows with the millions of iphones and ipod touches they have sold.

That's what I'm sayin', have you seen one commercial from palm telling you anything about the pre and what it can do, no. The only place I saw it was at the end of the sprint commercials, that's it. I love the iphone commercials they are simple and focus on nothing but the iphone and their most recent ones focus on apps. Palm needs to scrape up some money and fast for advertising if they plan on selling large quantities of the pre.

Wow, this is what I've heard about 90% of the people say about the iPhone. :laugh2: I've played with them and have the same problem. Its all about getting used to it I suppose. But true, for the Pre, that keyboard is even smaller than the Treos and BB devices.

Video chat isn't high on my list for the iPhone. I was never one for pc cams used in chatting, but I know we are all different and some would really love to have that feature. Another feature I have no interest in is the FM Transmitter.

I wouldn't use the video chat or an FM transmitter either, but I think that it's just something they will add so that it's there in case you ever want to use it. It would also be another thing most phones don't have and would set the bar high again like they did with the first two iphones. I think out of the two things I would probably use the FM transmitter more though. I hope what we see monday will be another big step ahead in smartphones when the new one is announced.

The good thing is that they are only concepts and you know how apple is with making their products look amazing. Now we will most likely see the leaked bezel and back cover but I am sure apple will work wonders with it and we will like it. I am thinking we will see the new iphone sooner than July, people keep saying they want to grab as many original iphone users because their contracts run out in July. AT&T always gives you early upgrade eligibility a few months before that 2 year date so those people should be able to get out of their contract or a new phone now. And I don't think Apple wants to pass up on any original iphone user who is able to upgrade now especially with the new competition.

What I know, don’t know, and know I don’t know about tomorrow’s WWDC announcements. As usual, please, no wagering.
iPhone 3GS

Everything I wrote about last month in “The Next iPhone (http://daringfireball.net/2009/05/the_next_iphone)” still stands. I expect Apple to announce updated iPhones with significantly faster processors, twice the RAM, and twice the storage. I expected prices to remain the same as the current lineup: $199/299 for 16/32 GB, respectively. The video camera is going to be a major selling point.

One additional tidbit I’ve heard is the new hardware’s code name: iPhone 3GS. I’m not certain that’s what it’ll be officially named, but my hunch is yes. I have no idea what the S stands for.1 (http://daringfireball.net/2009/06/wwdc_2009_predictions#fn1-2009-06-07)

The other new tidbit is battery life: 15-20 percent longer than the iPhone 3G.

As for form factor, I believe the 3GS will have the same or very similar dimensions as the 3G; the screen size is unchanged and existing cases might fit the 3GS. I assume that the new models must look different — newer, cooler — in some way, but I don’t know how.

Has any one heard any rumors if current iPhone owners will be able to upgrade even though they are not 18 mos into the contract. My upgrade date is actually 5/2010 because I didn't get the 3G until something like Sept. of last year. If I have to wait that long, I might as well get the next new one.:angry:

I haven't heard this, but this would make me soooooooo happy :D!! I got mine in Oct. or Nov. last year so I have a long time to wait. There is a very good chance I will be upgrading early AGAIN like I did with my 3G. Although I might just try and use the eligibility of someone else's line to get it at the subsidized price.

This all sounds very plausible to me, and I would love to see it happen. iPhone 3GS sounds pretty cool, too... :2cool:

I'm not sure what I'm expecting tomorrow, but I'm thinking (hoping mostly, but some thinking too) that we have to see something bigger and more exciting than some Apple sales figures and a Snow Leopard demo. Be it a surprise Jobs appearance (might happen), a demo of the new iPhone hardware and ETA or release date announcement (might happen also), or some other surprise, I have to believe that something's coming - Apple has everybody watching, and they can't just give us boring charts and statistics.

No I doubt we will see an iphone on verizons current network. Maybe once their 4G is large enough and mainstream across all of their phone line up, but verizon still likes to have some part of their own software on the phone and apple wouldn't allow that. I think that's one of the many reasons apple went to at&t, they just let them do whatever they wanted with the iphone and of course the biggest part is being GSM.

Nope the option for my line is that I am not eligible and I can pay for no commitment pricing, and the other lines are just simply eligible for subsidized pricing if they sign a 2 yr contract.

Mine's a bit of a conundrum really. Back in September or so of this year a friend's jailbroken and unlocked iPhone started acting up and there was nothing I could do to fix it, so I took it to the Apple store after a full restore. The "genius" got rude with me and told me that it was activated and didn't listen when I told him that I also had a 3G and could technically still use an old iPhone if I wanted. So after talking to a manager they agreed to replace the v1 iPhone but they said I would have to activate it. Since then I've gotten the original $20 iPhone plan with 200 texts and have always used the 3G. So I guess since I activated another v1 iPhone AT&T believes that is what I'm using, and thus, am eligible for an upgrade.

No, everyone was eligible for the 3G because the V1 was not subsidized.
I have not tried it, but many here have claimed to use another line for eligibility. I don't see why it can't be done. In your case, that is the way I would try to go.

For sure! I was seriously LIVID by the time I left the Apple store. I called corporate and actually made a claim against the "genius" in question. Even the two friends that I went with said he was out of line (and so did the manager).

I just hope the reps in the at&t store will be cool enough to take care of it all for me. The line I would probably end up trying it on is a V1 and hopefully by doing that it doesn't mess anything up. All I want is to use their eligibility since they are fine with their V1, their line gets a 2yr contract added on to it, and they keep their cheaper data plan. I upgraded early to my 3g and I wasn't upgrading from a V1, so they are just punishing me for upgrading early. I swear not long ago it just said I would have to wait till 2010 to get discounted pricing, but I could be wrong.

Ok, so I personally used my mom's upgrade (bless her because she will "upgrade" when her flip phone dies many years to come) to get my Curve. So they "thought" my mom was getting it, and as soon as we left the ATT store, I simply switched the SIM cards and updated the phone info online. Oh, and I called and said I wanted the data plan on MY line because we left there with no data plan on the phone... any ATT locked phone can be used with any other ATT sim card.

But for people wondering if the early upgrade will be available from 3G to 3/4/G2/S whatever, wait til the official announcement is actually made!

We used my son line for my husband 3G iphone.. The girl at the AT&T store did it all for us, we purchase the 3G on my son line and then she remove the 3G under my husband number. We haven't had any problems, even when we looked at the lines online it shows the 3G under my husband number and my son still has his old phone showing.

Why did you have to say that :tounge: It could have to do with 3.0 or Snow Leopard, but I don't think they would need much of any activity for that.
