I had 2.1 updated to 2.2 but my sim unlock did not work so i went to 2.1. in the process of downgrading to 2.1 i jailbroke with winpwn. Now its jailbroken and its a 2.1. and it shows no signal when i put my tmobile sim card and the sim unlock.
what can i do. any thoughts should i reset the whole phone again ?
Thanks, Krystian

The 2.2 update comes with a baseband upgrade that I believe has been known to disable the SIM unlocks. I'm not sure if there is a way of fixing it yet. I will look around.
I know that on the Quickpwn website they said not to update to 2.2 just yet.

You can restore in iTunes. Just plug the phone in and choose restore. Then you want to set it up as a NEW iPhone. That will bring it back to stock.
As an aside, you have a 3 series?

I figured so, not too many people know what an E46 is. I'm on e46fanatics as well. Same name over there as well.
Were you able to restore in iTunes?

can i restore my 3g with itunes and not get 2.2, i know if i press the shift button and select which update to choose from but then its starts installing and then it shows error
The problem is that you already ran the update and it updated the baseband (communications) firmware. As far as I know, it's not reversable.
Your best bet is to contact the SIM card manufacturer and see if they have conquered Firmware 2.2 for the 3G
