iMac won't see iphone 3g

Just bought an imac G4, still getting used to it as im from PC's but when i connect my iphone it won't see it, not in itunes or anything?? any help??

have you tried all of your usb ports?

yes tried all of them, still no joy. but....just noticed that when its connected, the iphone is charging but not arriving in itunes????
