Poor kid, I can't believe people would urge him to do it and then write "lol" as the police came in the room.

I agree. No one should've "egged him on"
At least some people actually tried calling the police.
Poor kid.

Tom, how is it that you're a nurse?
shouldn't you have at least a bit of compassion for the sick, whether it be physical or mental?
The problem here is that over the Internet, no one knows if you're for real or not. If I didn't know the guy well, I would seriously think twice about calling for help because, frankly, I don't know if he's serious or pulling some lame stunt. As far as the egging on goes, hey, read any forum (including this one) and you will see morons acting badly at times -- goes with the territory. If I were ever in such a state, I really think that I would be listening to those that I felt a connection with, and not the random rabble-rousers off on the side. One needs to remember that this society in which we live in is filled with people who will do and say outrageous things, and therefore the general public should not be filling in as your support system for when you have personal issues. If you wouldn't walk into a shopping mall and discuss your problems with the passers-by, you probably shouldn't be looking to a forum for help -- especially if he was seeking out the advice of those near his age -- who can be obviously so vastly uncaring and immature.
So I don't see this as being all the fault of those who egged him on -- why wasn't this kid bringing his problems to his family, friends, or even a counselor? Quite frankly, I am not surprised by the responses he got -- 'cause some people are jerks, and some people are not, and on the internet, no one really cares to hide the truth about their inner person. No offense, but if I am feeling suicidal, everythingicafe.com is NOT where I am going to go looking for advice. This kid made a very bad choice in terms of where to go for emotional support and advice, and it was a major factor in his death in my opinion. I don't see this as disturbing.
What I DO see as disturbing is Kelley selling her iPhone -- and this is absolutely the right place to look for emotional support before making such a drastic, life-changing decision. :D

I heard about this not too long ago. It really is a sad case. Every now and again you get another one of these and they try to sort out the blame. It's sad.

I think suicide is a very selfish act
so, no.

It says in the article that he was a regular on the forum. That would be similar to one of EIC's regulars saying similar things, right? Another fact is that he had a mental illness and you can't completely blame him for his actions if he wasn't mentally capable of making rational decisions. Not to mention the fact that he had video, I think at that point people would get concerned.

Haha! I can always go back.
OK, you're a regular on the forum as am I. Are you going to consult me with your most troubling problems? (Exclusive of your mental issues that are making you sell your iPhone, of course..) I've met a forum regular in person; but with all due respect, he's not the guy I'm going to when I need to unload my troubles on someone.
Again, notwithstanding the possible causes (such as his own mental health issues), he chose unwisely in whom to confide.
Again, I am compelled to admit that by the time *I* would have thought it was real (i.e. he swallowed pills and didn't get up for a substantial period of time), it would have been too late. The other issue - how could anyone watching it know what police department to contact and where to send them? If I said that I was suicidal and invited everyone to watch, how would you have any idea how to get help to me? About the best you could do would be to call the Tampa Police (or Tampa Fire/Rescue if you're sharp) based on my stated location in my profile, but you'd be wrong (I live in Tampa but outside of the city limits where Tampa FD/PD respond); you'd really want Hillsborough County PD/Rescue, and they'd have no idea where to go.
Technologically speaking, you could contact Chris, get my IP address, trace that back to my ISP, and get my address from there. However, that would take way too long.
Now, if he'd called a friend or family member....... Sadly, he did not.

I do not blame people for not being able to help, but I do blame them for behaving like animals and egging him on. Its the whole group mentality thing. Yes it would be strange if someone said they were suicidal on here, but I also would be concerned and at least tried to direct them towards help. (phone numbers, information, etc). Several people on here have disclosed very personal information in the past (and sought help for problems) so I do not think its totally unheard of. I mainly blame his family because they knew that he had problems and if anyone could have helped him it would have been them. I am not placing blame on the forum members, I just don't think that suicide is ever something to joke about. If someone "joked" to me that they were contemplating suicide I would tell them that it's not funny or something to joke about. Although they are not responsible for his death, they are responsible for their own reprehensible behavior.
True -- but to be honest I am much more concerned with the actions of the animals...errr...shoppers in that Wal-Mart on Long Island. I seriously wanted to get on a plane and slap around every single one of the morons who wanted to continue shopping. I don't think anything in the news has gotten me as angry in a very long time.

Yes, that upset me a lot too. I really hope they can track down the people who actually trampled that man (from video) but sadly I doubt they will be able to. The fact that no one cared and they all refused to leave the store is also horrible!
Yeah, those morons are lucky I wasn't an employee or cop there that day. I'da slugged anyone being that insensitive.
It is a sad world we live in that people act the way they do. Having had 3 people in my life commit suicide, I can tell you that if they announce it, they are not just "looking for attention". They NEED someone to care, someone to help them through whatever they are depressed about.
It's disturbing and at the same time slightly understandable that people didn't take this seriously. I have been part of one online community or another for the better part of about 14 years now, and I know how people can lie to get attention, but when the person is webcasting their attempt at suicide, it's not anything anyone should be laughing about. It's just sick to think that people thought it appropriate enough to type LOL or similar messages.
While I don't believe that the government has the right to interfere with the web, I do believe that something should be done to respond to such situations though.

Roids and Amino acids are known to be very very dangerous and harmful. A lot of people died at young ages because of the Roids. It simply is another hormone getting injected in your body that will affect other hormones. Your birth ability will get screwed. A lot of people ended up not having birth at all or having disabled children, I mean children that aren't like others, who have failures in certain things like ODD and stuff. I for one would never take any roids even though I practice a lot at the gym, because I don't want to risk it. Because in the end my body isn't going to help me if I am too muscular or whatever, at least not in my country or in the gulf countries (where I am planning to work at).
Some people say that amino acids and roids are just complementary. More proteins and vitamins injected in your body so you would have more power and longer breath to play and work out even more than a normal person would. But heck, I do care about my future and I don't want to die at a young age.
I'd like the people to watch vides on YouTube about wrestlers who died, those videos had certain titles (Wrestlers Tribute I think). Check out how many wrestlers died at the age of 20 - 39.
Check this out guys
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZMybi4K1H8&feature=related
Almost 95% of the people who died because of heart attacks is simply because of the stupid steroids and the other things they take to grow more muscles in a short time. Also suicides, remember Chris Benoit?
I am sorry if any one here takes steroids and stuff, I wish them a happy and long life.

Easy to say when you're in your right mind. Not to mention, it sounds like you feel you have some good people in your life to discuss things with. Maybe this kid did too, but just didn't know it. In any case, it's not always so easy for someone like that to realize they need professional (or at least personal) help.
No, we can't blame the eggers-on, but jesus... doesn't say much for their character.
