I have been receiving calls from known callers (their caller I.D.s appear) on my 3G iPhone, yet when I check the phone bill, these calls are appearing as my own phone number (like a "blocked" call). Does anyone know how this is possible?

Thanks,
Waton

I think, and I can be wrong but, I think if you have a contact listed in your Iphone contact list it will show up on your caller ID. However as far as ATT is concerned it was a blocked call.

Yes, it is strange. Receive calls from people I know, they are in my contacts and their name shows on caller I.D., but the calls are showing up on the ATT phone bill under MY cell phone number, which is how a blocked call appears. Called ATT, and they said the caller had withheld their caller ID. So I am very puzzled as to why the calls appear on my phone with the contact name...?

I think it is because these callers are already in your address book. If I am correct, then it is with any cell phone, not just iphone. When the carrier sends over a blocked call the caller's actual number is coming through but with an extra digit that causes it to show as blocked on your caller ID. But if that caller has called you in the past without blocking and you have their number stored in your address book then your phone's address book already recognizes the phone number which causes that extra digit (the blocking digit) to be ineffective. Also, since you are getting their name as well as number we know that they are in the address book. Of course, your carrier doesn't know whats in your address book so the bill shows the incoming call as blocked (meaning it shows the incoming number as yours, lacking the actual number).

That was the answer I received when I asked ATT about it. http://g09k0221lebj272.imageshacknow.info/img/3152/q09b0222ufui/character0010.gif
