I have spent all day trying to figure out what the problem has been with the my new aluminum Macbook and it has turned out the be the 4GB of ram I purchased through crucial. I would suggest getting the memory from apple and save yourself the headache of going through what i have. A lot of people are having problems with all types of memory and it seems the new MB's and MBP's are really picky on what type of ram you use. I went through all the apple phone support, safari reset, safari reinstall, clean install of OS X. As soon as i would turn it on and open anything it would freeze. I hope my advice helps the ones who are looking into purchasing and upgrading the new macbooks.

that's good to know.
you can still get apple-supported memory without having to get it from apple.

I'm sorry to hear you had problems with your Crucial memory. IIRC, Crucial is one of the OEM suppliers of memory to Apple - I once upgraded memory from an older PowerBook and it was Crucial-branded when I took out the stock sticks. There are a lot of Macs out there with Crucial memory in them from the factory, and OEM and after-market memory can both fail from any manufacturer. Not trying to discount your experience, but Crucial memory has been used for a while in Macs and is recommended by many for after-market upgrades.
I hope Crucial has a warranty under which you can get a refund. I have heard they do have very good customer service...

yea they do have a warranty. If anybody can find out about this issue with the late 2008 MacBooks I would appreciate it. I was on another forum and it was like a real common problem.

I have gotten my money back from crucial. I called and the guy immediately gave me a refund and said it is something on the apple side. Has anyone used Ramjet ram? If so how did it work?
