View Full Version : Pictures blurred after 2.2 upgrade

I updated my wife's V1 over the weekend to 2.2. After doing so, she noticed that if she saves any pictures that are emailed to her, they are blurred in the camera roll.

I checked her phone and sure enough she was right. Then I had her send me a picture via email and when I saved it from email, it was blurred on my phone (in the camera roll) just as well. I then sent myself an email with a picture attached and saved it. Just like before, when I view it from camera roll, it is all blurred. But, it looks fine in the email. I had already upgraded to 2.2 as well and so I'm wondering if this is a bug or is it just coincedence that the same issue is happening on two different phones in my house...neither of which are JB'en.

Anyone else noticed this on 2.2?

Do the pictures appear fine on a computer? Maybe for some reason the camera roll is resizing the photos as it adds them, but I'm not so sure that actually happens.

It's a bug in 2.2.... there are several other reports of it on the board. The picture is saved in full resolution (you can SSH into the phone to retrieve it at full rez), but what you see on the iPhone is a blown-up version of the thumbnail you see in the camera roll page.

Hopefully they'll fix it soon.

Great, thanks Psy!!

The pics do appear fine in on the computer. I hadn't seen anyone else mention this issue before.

This is happening to me too. =(

i find that if i view the image in my email and take a screenshot, then view that screen shot in the Photos app and "zoom crop" the screenshot to only show the picture, and take a screenshot of that it's actually better that the blown up thumbnail it saves. quite a lengthy workaround, but it works for me when i really need it. at least then you have a clear 320x480 picture.

*sigh*.
I have this annoying issue as well.

The weird thing is I've mentioned the bug in several threads now, yet I have yet to experience it myself?

Pictures look fine saved from web pages or email. I'm even jailbroken.

I think the email one was. I'll test again.

I haven't experienced this, either.

I just noticed that last week. It was the first picture I ever saved from an email and thought iPhones were just like that lol. I just downloaded the pic off my computer and synced it through iTunes and it's clear like it should be.

I almost took my iphone to the Apple store because of this, my pictures look so grainy. I thought something is wrong with my camera, I don't like it one bit. After playing with a Voyager and BB Storm's camera I am really wanting Apple to make some improvements on their camera.

It doesn't affect pictures taken with the camera. It only affects pictures saved from web pages and emails.

Well maybe it is my iphone then, in the past couple of weeks all my pictures are coming out very grainy.

This is a great reason why we should have MMS!!!! Apple is going backwards! We shouldn't have to deal with this BS. 2.2 is more of a downgrade than an upgrade.

try this workaround:

1) after you save a picture from safari and it appears blurry in the camera roll album, download 'Scribble' (free app) from the app store and open that SAME pic in Scribble.

2) once you open it in scribble it should appear as normal and SAVE it from within Scribble. this will create another copy of that same pic in the camera roll album.

now if you go into your camera roll, you should have one blurry pic and a copy of that, which is proper quality. hope this helps!

It's always nice to have some workarounds, - but that one it's to slow...

I don't know about you, but to me, 5 seconds (which is what this takes after the one time download of Scribble) isn't too bad until Apple fixes it.

Your way is better than nothing - don't get me wrong on this

Let's hope for Apple to fix this problem in 2.2.1...

thanks a lot! any work around is good no matter how longnit takes, and this only takes a few seconds. totally beats having to go on my computer and save an image from my email and sync it to my phone just to use an emailed photo as my wallpaper. this totally helps.

I had the exact same problem. It's a bug in 2.2. Apple store wouldn't do anything about it--expect us to wait for an update. I'm going to be trading a lot of photos over Christmas via email on the Iphone and so can't wait. It's a nightmare. I feel the Apple people should warn people on their website so people can make the choice whether to update to 2.2 or not.
