Last friday, Apple (yup, they're still around), released the 2.2 firmware, but 3 days later, an french mac website shot on telling everybody that on 08-12-08 the 2.3 firmware is going to be released for beta testing.
The update should have the follow items included:
- Horizontal display for SMS and Email
- Theme's (Like we know when we Jailbreak them)
- Copy/Paste
- Notifications (Push) for applications

This sounds like a big rumour to me, especially from a pregnant rumour site. But lets face it, It would be great to see more to be fixed and have some new futures

I agree, most likely a rumor. How can it be released 3 months ago is my question?

That is likely Day/Month/Year formatting that is common in Europe. So... December 8th.
I'm not getting my hopes up.

This would be awesome if it were true, but it doesn't seem like something Apple would do.
Especially the themes...

i dont think that applw will allow themes

Yeah, definitely photoshop. Look how the font where it says "iPhone 2.3 software update" is different from the "een overzicht van" stuff
Impossible. The next update is in two weeks???
I'll bet against that!

Let's not call rumors that emanate from some sporadic French website as "Official".

That is so fake. It says it's including everything people have been asking for since the iPhone came out.

i agree this is probably fake. but just in case i'll wait till 12-8-08 to upgrade to 2.2 and re-jailbreak since i've been putting it off because i really hate doing it.

If there was any truth to this then why wouldn't they have just released all these features in 2.2? Why wait two weeks (through a holiday week) to release another update?
*sigh* I'd be happy to have one of these in the next update.

probably all BS but you never know, it may be apples way of saying
"here.. your christmas present from us, sorry for teasing you"
you never know?

It would be so nice if Apple did all those things for us. But I think someone's pulling our chain and that is just not a cool thing to do.
Apple may just have a Christmas present for us. If this is the case, I welcome it. I just don't like or appreciate the lie sites messing us about like this.

The OP says that it'll be available for beta testing. Whatever that means. Probably just to developers so they can redo their software to be compatible?
Themes and horizontal SMS/e-mail sounds a bit too good to be true. They should've added video recording in that list. :tounge:
I wouldn't be surprised though to see copy/paste and push notifications in the next update (next year).

You are totally correct! One of these days, I'll learn how to read. I'm sure copy and paste and push notifications will show up one of these days.

If the list said push notifications and bug fixes than I might have fallen for it. The copy/paste and themes is just a joke.

Very, very unlikely. Nonetheless, that would be a pretty sweet update. And yeah, they did claim it goes out for beta testing on Dec. 8th, not final release. And takes a while for firmware updates to travel from initial beta release to gold master (ready to be released to the public.)

i love how every time a new firmware is released the rumors about a new firmware with everything we want in it start flying around. *on jan 1st 2.4 is gonna come out it, it will include video and mms along with what is in 2.3* :-P

Frankly...after owning two 3G units for 2 weeks I am returning them to ATT. Great design, great screen and nice gingerbread but in all honestly the machine is really only "great" for high school. Any real business work is not possible. No MMS, Copy/paste, forwarding of SMS, worthless outlook integration, no built in to do/agenda, no way to set appointments from a contact…etc etc. Not even native reading of office docs. And no flash! How about photo image sizing when taking a pic? small/med/large??? No easy way to hook up to multiple iTunes on different computers...grrrr
I am frustrated and have a love/hate relationship with this phone. NOR did I know about these “issues” and only found them out after the fact…

Anyone thinking this is Apple's Christmas present to us, it won't happen. We were all wishing the same thing last year.
Would have been nice to see all those features though :(

Since when does a "business" phone as you state "need" flash, and a "need" to hook up to multiple iTunes accounts? And MMS?? Sounds like you are in high school and trying to use that old business aguement to justify your "need" for things that I really dont see in a need for in the day to day business world. I've been on Blackberries, Treo's, Palms, MW devices, etc etc and there really isnt ANYTHING I cant do running my business via my iPhone that I could do on any of those other devices. Sounds like you are just not happy with the phone, but please dont use the "business" agruement, we have all heard that plenty times before. I use more apps via the AppStore for my business on the iPhone then I ever dreamed of on my BlackBerry. I might have listened to your agruement on V1 but please. Not to mention you post this in babble in the wrong thread anyway. This is about a "rumor" about 2.3 and not whether or not you like your current iPhone(s) or not.

Right on. I couldn't agree more. I have and have had a very successful financial advisory business for over 2 decades and switched from a Treo last April and am doing fine. With the help of many at EIC I have learned work arounds for those areas that the Phone isn't that strong. The plus' of the iPhone far out way any negatives so knock off the crap.

Ok thanks for clearing that up!!
i bet there will be nothing for the rest of the year. maybe MWSF there will be a new firmware with some the things they have promised months ago. With many vendors downsizing their booths or withdrawing, maybe they will fill the void with some iPhone news/updates...

While that is true now, at some point, there will be an update. I'm sure they are working on one, we just need to be patient.
