View Full Version : 2.2 Problem - Unable to Update Applications via App Store

Good evening to you all.

I updated to 2.2 this morning with no problems. All in all I think the phone is much snappier.

One problem I have noticed though. Since this morning I am unable to update any applications via the App Store. It seems to say ' Loading ' for an eternity , to then just inform me that it's not possible to connect to itunes store etc etc etc. It has been like this all day , something which 2.1 never did.

Am I right in saying that this is buggered until Apple issue a fix (could be a while) or is it likely to just ' sort itself out '

As I'm new to this iphone stuff , am I right in thinking that if this problem continues , the only way I can check for updates for my applications , is to connect to pc & check via itunes that way.

Regards James

You are not alone with this problem. I don't think it has anything to do with the update as such, but the traffic the update is causing on the Apple servers. I have not been able to check for updates all day for my existing Apps.

And yes, the phone does seem to be much snappier.

jimmyp, what I do is delete the app that is called for an update them re-download it again. That defeats hooking up the phone to iTunes in order to get the update.

James,How long did it take for you to update your phone to version 2.2????Regards,:)

This could be caused because so many people are downloading the update through itunes right now. So it might just be hard to connect today.

That's just a guess though and I could be completely wrong. I was told to always update apps via my desktop and then sync the phone. That is what I do.

That doesn't seem to work either. The servers are just overloaded with folks getting the update.

James,
Thanks for the response. I just finished the update.....the download took approximately 20 minutes or so...the install took about 10.

For others , you can see that it is updating because not only do you see the progress while installing, the phone screen is lit up showing a progress bar as well.

Take care...

You're welcome.

On another note , I noticed in the change log it states something about the home button now taking you back to the 1st page of the application/menu you're in.

Now I don't know if I'm doing something wrong here , however it doesn't matter where I am in the phone , & what I'm looking at , but when I press the home button , it always takes me back to the original home screen.

Am I reading this wrong :frown:

That's exactly what it is supposed to do.

Yup , was just trying to work out though what it meant in 2.2 when it says , wherever you are in an application pressing the home button will take you back to the 1st screen of that app , not the home screen.

May have misunderstood. Here is the quote from Apple (http://www.apple.com/iphone/softwareupdate/):
"Pressing Home button from any Home screen displays the first Home screen."

But didn't pressing the home button from any screen always take you to the home screen ?

Certainly did on mine.

Here's what it means. Say you have 5 pages of Apps and you are on page 3, but need something on page 1. While on page 3 press the home button and it will take you to page 1. No need to swipe now.

I have the same problem, but now I can't be sure if it's a v2.2 problem or an itunes problem. Right after I updated my Phone f.w. I was prompted to update Itunes. So I'm not sure which it would have been.

Same here. I have a pretty standard phone too. Not jailbroken or anything. So much about the Apple vs. Microsoft experience. It is the same. Complex software always comes with problems.
