My iPhone's dock broke a piece off my mic plastic covering. It's not my fault, some part of the dock snapped onto that and broke it off! I am out of warranty, so I don't know what to do. Can the repair it themselves? or will their only alternative is to offer me a new one for (what price also?) a certain price. It's driving me nuts to see that little piece coming off! And it makes me madder that it's Apple product's fualt! I treat my iPhone better than I treat my own little sisters for god's sake! lol!:tounge:

being that you're out of warranty, they'll probably offer you a nice, new iPhone 3g... for $199.

You might be in luck. It's supposed to go down to $149 soon!!!!!

Just go down there and ask. The worst they can say is no. I have noticed that if you are not mad at all they will typically do a lot more for you. I've had 2 replaced out of warranty.

Ohh... and if they do make you pay for it they have a flat rate of repair that is like 159 or something like that.

I will try to be nice, but if they charge me for it then I'll just have a fit. My iPhone is my child! It has a scrreen protector and a case. Always cleaned a billion times a day. Somethinglike this makes me mad! If someone broke it i'd charge them. If I broke it I understand. But this is Apple and their products fault! I ran out of warranty since September. I'll try to keep my cool, I just need to blank out my iPhone because it's jailbroken and unlocked. And I am not the original owner. How do I activate the phone without jailbreaking or unlocking it??? If its locked, i pop in my sim and it says to activate it. My excuse is that I use it as my iPod now because since the economy turned, I couldn't afford to keep paying for him so it's my iPod now.

Sucks that it broke man, but unfortunately you have no grounds to "have a fit". You said it yourself, you're outside of the manufacturer's warranty.

Ya but again it wasnt my fault. I understand if I broke it, i would pay for it. But their own products damaged it. Not me

Right. That's the purpose of the warranty.

Like it or not, it is going to have to be on your nickel. Life just sometimes sucks that way.

How do you know the previous owner didn't do something to weaken that area, causing it to break at a later point when you happen to be the owner? IIRC, didn't he tell you the wrong purchase date, making it seem like the warranty was in effect longer than it really was? Who's to say he didn't tell you about dropping it at one point and causing unseen damage to this area? Unfortunately, people aren't always 100% honest when selling things.

I don't think it's Apple's fault, but if they are unofficially treating this as a manufacturer's defect, they *may* replace it for you. But, it is out of warranty, so that may change things even if they acknowledge it as a defect.

If you didn't drop, it's not your fault either but you'll still have to pay for it. Like dturner, life just sucks that way sometimes.

God this sucks!
No, he told me he got the original in september, but it was having issues, so he exchaged it in march. So the warranty was still originally september. How coulda he just hiot that mic part with a hammer then sell it to me? C'mon let's be real now! I know no one is honest but my dock snagged onto the phone, i had to put a small ammount of pressure to release the phone, then i noticed it caught onto that black piece of plastic and broke it off.

What are you asking of us,[I]Pimpboy?

You will probably have to pay for it. You're out of warranty. T doesn't matter who's fault it is. In reality, it doesn't sound like anyones fault. Things break as they get older. Bummer.

Just suck it up and deal.

4 words: implied warranty of merchantability.

It's still under warranty. You'll have to fight with them a bit, but according to US law it is still under warranty--regardless of what Apple says.
