If anyone can offer any ideas or help, I would much appreciate it...

My problem is this,
my 3g phone is strange, and the 3g acts up a LOT while my girlfriend, parents, and numerous other people I know in the area have little problem.

I called apple care, and they told me to take it into the local apple store.

I did this today, with an appointment and all. The phone rattles, it hasnt been dropped, and it shuts off all on its own sometimes.

Well, in International Plaza in Tampa, I talked to a "genius" at the "genius bar" and he informed me that it was most likely a hardware problem. This is Iphone 3g #2 for me and total #10!!! The V1's i went through were junk, speakers quit working, wifi, edge, screens, buttons. If it could fail, it did for me.

Well he looks at the phone, and says he will replace it. I ask if there are any options aside from junk refurbs, and he says something to the effect of sending the phone out. I can't live without it so i decline.

He pops the sim out, so on so forth, and starts to examine the phone,
he looks in the top, earphone jack, and then in the sim "port" if you will.

Then he looks in the dock area. After a few minutes of looking, he says that the watermark on the bottom had gotten wet, and there was nothing he could do for me.

I spoke to a manager, who was not the greatest aid, and did nothing for me. I called apple care later at night, and have to call tomorrow as a mgmt department was closed. They made a case number etc...

The problem i have is that the phone has NEVER been wet. Its always in a case, and very well protected. I have yet to drop a phone, and its been well more than a year of ownership.
So, for my 11th trip to the apple store, at 61 miles one way, they tell me to pound sand and there is nothing they can do, nor will they try.

The sad fact is, is that this isnt some silly sob story, that I am some guy that wants free stuff for my mistakes. I really havent exposed the phone to anything, and rarely do i let anyone else touch the damn thing!

I have had cars in warranty, and if I modify, or I hit stuff, i expect the warranty to be defunct. If I drive my car into water, and the radio quits working, fine! But i wouldnt be happy if i didnt do these things, and this is the same premise to me!

I am even more heated as they took the phone, did some diagnostics, and created further problems for me, like popping and hissing from the earpiece anytime i use the voice recognition stuff, like the new google, or say who/where type apps. Now restoring wont even install apps!!!!

Im totally frustrated, and honestly I live by this phone, and its internet capacity, am I seriously going to have to ditch apple and go get a blackberry?

I love my IPhone, and the 3g, however, I'm pissed as I have been made responsible for what seems like the cause of the problems all along! How do I know I didnt buy this POS like this? I even used the dock port protectors from switcheasy until I switched to an INCASE slider! I have been super careful, and I am damn sure that water has never come in contact with my phone, and I was told a drop nor some mist would do this, it had to be submerged. The top earphone jack was fine however, so im not sure how i submerged it if the top jack doesnt have the same evidence. I told him to open the phone, but was informed they couldnt do that there!

I am sorry for the possible terrible grammar above, and the ranting is rediculous, but if anyone can point me in the right direction, and see if apple will support a customer that has personally purchased $1600+ in new IPhones for family etc..

thanks in advance!
If anyone has any solutions, i would be more than happy to compensate reasonably! Let me know what good info is worth!
take care,
Mark

uhh that entire post was a borderline rant LOL.

Ok I suggest you live the 3 days without the phone and send it to apple and wait for ur replacement. If this dosent work then try emailing apple explain your case be detailed but not long winded.

Now another thing you went thru 10 v1s and 2 3gs??? Ok seriously stop nit picking and sweatting the tiny things. There is no way in hell that a person can go thru 12 products and they all are broken. The odds would be 1million to 1. I'm finding many people are OCDing or being paranoid over the smallest things with these phones.

Oh and the popping is a regular thing. Connect ur earphone/mic while the phone is on standby. Press the sleepwake button and ull hear the pop. This is just your iPhone detecting that something is plugged into it relax.

I just realized something if that's your second 3g the possibility of them giving you a refurb with a red water spot is high. This would only work if u got the refurb from thm.

Scratches and dents were just cosmetic. I tried to avoid, however, It wasnt ever a large issue. Typically the phones would stop working in one way or another. Hotspots in screen that went black when using the phone.
How about picking one of the phones up at the store after the last wouldnt even turn on. I walked out, and got a phone call as I was leaving the store. The built in earpiece didnt work, and i could hear nothing. I had to walk back in and get another on the spot. How about the lock button sinking away? the home button quits working? I have had all of these problems, but Ill admit, a few of the phones (v1's) werent that bad. I would just have a technical problem and they would replace without troubleshooting. That would be two by the way. My first v1 lost its speaker in about 25 days. That was a pleasant surprise. I am not telling you the IPhone is junk, i love my phone, but i won't exaggerate ;)

I had a 2004 ford F-250 turbodiesel truck. It cost me little on warranty, but the dealer $28,000+ in warranty repairs. I was not alone, but i may be cursed.

The popping is from the earset built ON to the phone, not the attachable earbuds. Im talking the slot on the face of the phone. The erratic 3g behavior and its loss of data network isnt something ill overlook. EVERY TIME i try to use something data related, the 3g icon typically dissapears, and is replaced with the E or the little cute ring. Ill put it in airplane mode, 3g will return, but with no bars. Then ill exit the settings menu, and voila, ill have 5 bars 3g.

This is IPhone 3g #2. The first one new in box would not connect to WIFI. You believe what you want, but they exchanged it for a new one on the spot, as they could reproduce the problem. I appreciate the input, however, there is no additional OCD or concern here. I like my phone, but I dont care that much. Im looking at my V1 right now, and there are nicks and scratches on it. No worries, I like racecars, i like the little scratches and dings that come from using things the way they were meant to be used.

I honestly would just appreciate a properly functioning device for even just a short period. I did buy and pay for 3g service and the phone to use 3g, not edge. It is vexing to look over next to you in the car or at dinner and everyone else around has good service and it stays on that signal. My woes are repeatable.

I hope my ranting hasn't annoyed, but wouldn't you be mildly uncomfortable with this situation if you wanted your stuff to work properly, you've spent nearly $2000 with a company, and the only response you get is that you're at fault?

Thanks for the insight, however it was a new phone at the time...
