Closing Applications

I have a quick question about the applications running on the phone. When you open any app and then hit the home screen button does that just suspend the app or does it "close" the app? If it does just suspend the app is there any way to stop it from running in the background?

Also what is the average run time of the iPhone's battery? Mine is down to 1/4 left by around 6 or 7 pm here and I unplug it from the charger at around 8

whenever your wanna close an app just hold the home button until the app closes.

What ^ said...you have to hold Home down for about 8-10 seconds and the screen will go black for a second then the Home screen will come back. This completely closes the app.

You battery life depends on several things like how much you surf, listen to the iPod, watch vidoes, etc... I typically recharge mine every couple of days and surf or watch videos a moderate amount (2 hours/day)
