Here's two reviews from iphones main competitor. Enjoy and compare to what us iphone owners are going against. Share your thoughts about this phone with everyone. Does it stand a chance against the 3G?

I love the first video and the fact that the reviewer keeps poking jabs at the iPhone. Someone needs to kick Apple is the ass for omissions such as copy & paste and video recording.

I think bigcix is obsessed.

2 threads about the same thing....i mean really cmon.

Its the best competition by far against the iphone, and its the latest/newest gadget so expect the reviews and press to fly out left/right/centre.

Ill give credit where credit is due, Its really nice...but i dont think many people are seeing it as a huge "time to jump ship and leave apple" threat.

Its pretty much the first and direct competition to the iphone. Now people will have a choice when the phone comes to AT&T. Iphone or Storm.

I stopped watching the first after the mention of the "jibbery jabbery pushing" that is required on other smartphones (as the iPhone peeped up in the corner). Stating that thumb texting is impossible or even cumbersome on the iPhone is a poor statement. Not having an actual Qwerty keyboard but rather the traditional Blackberry keyboard even on a touchscreen? That seems like the biggest waste. And yes, I do know that a Qwerty keyboard is available in landscape mode but I've never seen the need or want of landscape texting.

Yeah i forgot to mention that...about the texting. That guy is full of shyt. Texting on the iphone is easy. People think b/c they dont have a button they try to hard not to mess up. Just type what you wana say the phone corrects itself...very good i might add.

Also wup tee f**ing do, sms in landscape mode and haptic feedback clicking on things u didnt want to click on. lol. As with these reviews and all the others that are soon to come, they are going to exploit only the flaws of the iphone.... smear campaign style. no flash, no Landscape texting, no push, no haptic feedback no cut & paste and no MMS.

Lets not forget...the iphone is almost 2 yrs old. v1 came June 29, 2007. The 3G came July 11, 2008.

Its taken them this long to come with a decent competitor so expect them to run around with their heads cut off.

Nowhere near being obsessed with the storm. I (and this is my own opinion) think that the blackberry storm has the iPhone beat in almost every aspect except wi-fi and web browsing. I believe blackberry stepped up and delievered what people want in a smartphone. We as iPhone owners have been asking apple to release features that this phone has out of the box. It's time for apple to step up and put out a major update without bringing out a whole new phone for next year. Some of u will agree and some of u won't. But as u can see the storm is a great phone that has the potential to deliever the knock out blow to apple.

Yes, but why should common smartphone features such as copy & paste have to wait until iPhone v3? If there is no copy & paste for the v2 3G, but suddenly appears on the v3 iPhone, I will jump ship.

You already have an iPhone so you pretty much like it or ur used to it even with the flaws so when the v3 comes and it has more features and is more powerful I think you'll drop the anchor and stay.

I like the concept of the tactile screen. It's a great engineering idea. But really it's for people who can't give up the idea of a physical, tactile keyboard. Some may dig that, but essentially really, it requires you to press harder to select something.

Although it took some time, I really appreciate the "feather touch" of the iPhone. I know BB heads will disagree, but I would find the clicky screen cumbersome to get used to after using the iPhone for a year.

was it just me or did it seem like that phone was very slow and choppy in all of its functions?? And I'm sorry, but I don't want to have to click anything extra... hell, I don't even use the click down on the track pad function of my mac book, I have tap enabled so its more like the iPhone, nice and easy.

You appear to seriously underestimate my desire for copy & paste, my friend...

Now, I knew going in that the iPhone didn't have copy & paste, but I never thought that it would never show up after one and a half years...

In the video it looked as if the user was having to pretty much mash the keyboard to type; I prefer the iPhone's virtual keyboard. And I seriously wonder about the lifespan of the Storm's tactile screen.

So i jumped ship and plumped for the Storm.......

Had it since last friday an im taking it back tommorrow.

So heres my opinion for what its worth,

The screen on the storm and picture quality in video in my opinion is better than the iphone, however the media player is not as sleek and can be annoying,

didnt feel there was much difference between the cameras, just flash on the storm, video capture was a nice touch though,

The keyboard was nice to use but i felt the iphone was abetter overall experience, also you cant see what youve pressed as it highlights but it is covered by your finger.

the click screen is a nice touch, but once again got fed up in the end, not as responsive as the iphone and sometimes didnt work at all,

The apps were s**t, the volume of music on earphones was way too quiet for me, i like my music loud, however the speaker was better than the iphone. it was clearer, crisper and louder.

So what was the dealbreakers? Why is it going back?

1. Battery life is shocking, i mean really shocking, check out the vodaphone forums, everyones complaining, not even lasting me half a day with moerate use.

2. Browser is slow, web pages dont load up in the correct format, no wifi, weak 3g signal compared to iphone.

3. 2mm gap around screen, was going crazy thinking of all the crap going into the phone.

4. Slow rotation, Slow menu pop up, Just Slow slow slow!!!

Anyway, in my very humble opinion rim really messed up, this was an excellent chance to offer up an iphone beater, this phone is nice to look at, the screen is amazing, but in a rush to get it out for xmas, they forgot to test it beforing giving it to customers.

So back to my 16gb 3g baby, sorry i ever doubted you in the first place.

I'm pretty satisfied with the iPhone's battery life. However, when it gets here, I plan on popping in a 1600mAh battery for that little extra push over the cliff.

And please, no posts about how the 3G has a 1400mAh battery already in it; the stock unit is 1150mAh.

Napoleon,

The guy at the Apple store said that you could not have an extra battery for the iPhone....hmmmm.....Me thinks he did not know all there is to know about the iPhone.

My question is this...where would you get one? How hard would it be to install? Would it void the warranty? How much?

Now I am not a "Power User" and when I have the iPhone at work for listening to music and amazing my friends at its "coolness factor" it is plugged into the USB port on my laptop. I have found that the battery life is VERY short compared to my Palm Treo 650. That is most likely due to the lack of wifi and a smaller screen.

Micirv,

Thanks for the writeup! I was considering a BB type phone to replace my treo and am glad I went with the iPhone. Of course, with my great timing of purchases, the Storm came out.

The videos that bigcix posted were informative (if not a bit biased) and clued me into a couple of things:

The first was the "QWERTY-ish" keyboard in profile mode. One major reason I didnt go with a pearl. I am a HUGE fan of a full QWERTY keyboard in landscape and profile mode. I suck at texting as I don't do it ever really and having to get used to two letters per key does not appeal to me.

The second thing I noticed was the "clickability" of the touchscreen...something I didn't really comprehend until the second video showed/explained it. It sounds pretty nice (especially from a previous Palm user) but I am beginning to REALLY like the way the iPhone does things.

Nice writeup....thanks for the comparison!

I ordered the battery through www.meritline.com. There's no soldering involved, although you still have to take care when opening up the iPhone. I'm sure it would void the warranty, but that's a chance I'm willing to take.

Thanks Napoleon....

How much more time would you get vs the original battery do you think?

Under ideal conditions, it should yield a result that is proportional to the higher rating, which in this case is about 39% more juice. I would say in practice you'll see an addition 1.5 to 2.5 hours if the stock unit is indeed only 1150 mAh, although I'm anxious to hear Napoleon's real-world results.

June 11 2007 minus nov 20 2008.

The v1 had 14months of time untill July 2008 when the 3g came out. Up until now the apple iPhone has been out 20months which is why I say it's ALMOST 2 years old. This will be an exact statement in march 2009.

So yes they are correct in saying it's almost 2 years old.

June 11th was the first iday, like you said. (I think....at least that sounds right. It was either June or July when it came out, right?)

July, Aug, Sep, Oct, Nov

That's one full year (June last year to June this year) plus five more months. 17 months. It's not even 1.5 years old, much less two.
