Bluetooth questions.

Hello.

My questions are more to do with Bluetooth rather than iPhone or any other phone.

I have a number of questions that someone may be able to provide an
answer or two!.
Briefly!, my wife is bedridden and is also unable to speak properly and
I like to spend time in the garden, so we use bluetooth on her laptop
and I carry my mobile phone with bluetooth enabled, and depending on what side of the house I am in the garden I can receive a message
if she needs me.
the Bluetooth adapter/dongle on the laptop is a class1 (Motorola) and
is about 2 years old.
My questions:
(a) Are the more modern class1 adaptors/dongles more powerful.

(b) What is the difference between a $12 adapter (class1) and a $99
(class1) adapter.

(c) To what extent will the new Bluetooth v3.0 and the new v3.0 USB
be better (besides speed of transfer) than current v2.0.

(d) Bluetooth and USB appear to follow in version update ie v1.1-2.0
and 3.0 and do they both need to be the same version to pair.
