I am so disappointed with the iPhone. How Apple managed to take such a pretty looking device and screw it up so bad is just awful.
The email program is absolutely awful. Checking only 15mins...not being able to select multiple emails for delete...on top of that, having to then go into the Trash folder and AGAIN, delete one by one...no copy and paste...etc.
I dont think i am being picky. These are functions that PDA's have had for YEARS!!! Its like Apple decided to take a step backwards with the email program.
Additionally, the battery life sucks. Why its not removable is just stupid. Another way for Apple to make more money off us. $80 for a replacement once a year. Forget that!
The keyboard...not even going to get into it. If you have an iPhone, you know my frustrations. In todays world, we email and text in cyber-slang. Almost every email i have written, it has changed the word i meant for it to be, to something completely different.
I havent been waiting 5 months for this device...i have been waiting over 5 years, since the Newton, for Apple to come back out with a handheld.
Wasted time.

Why does everyone complain about the deletion of multipul emails??? You just swipe your finger over it and tap delete and move on. Its a whole ONE finger swipe its not like 40 steps to delete it. Its crazyness what people complain about.
You can set the email to delete itself from the trash after a set time. I agree the 15 minutes to check email is a bit long though. As for the keyboard I can type faster than I ever could on my BB. Most of the small problems are easy software updates, something Apple is known for.
It certainly has its negatives, but I like it a lot more than my pearl. BB email certainly puts this email to shame, but it will be made better in time.

Not sure what your email volume is like, but I get over 100 emails a day, and that is on a slow day. Deleting them after the initial read is fine with me, but then having to go in and delete from the TRASH folder, one by one, is poor planning. You also have to delete from the SENT folder.
A SELECT ALL or MASS DELETE option is kind of a no brainer.
Dont get me wrong people, i am an Apple ADDICT. I have ONLY owned Apple/Mac computers since I was a child, never once a PC. I switched a 10 person company that I used to work with over to Mac from PC. I convinced both my brothers, both who were hard-core PC users to switch.
I am just shocked that with all the buzz and hype, that Apple cut corners on such simple things.

So part of the reason your returning it is because you can't "mass delete" e-mail? That is something Apple can fix, and probably will, easily.

I agree, you do need to return your iPhone because for your business purposes, it doesnt compare to a blackberry.

Oh BTW.. you can set the iPhone to delete emails in the Trash that are either:
a. 1 day old
b. 1 week old
c. 1 month old
No need to delete them one by one.. let the iphone do it for you.

They may be a few flaws that you don't like, but is no reason to return the Phone. Most complaints are software related can and will be fixed. One thing people need to remember is that Apple rushed it. Watch he Keynotes and you noticed the iPhone wasn't ready then (they also showed ringtones in iTunes).

I don't disagree. I think most of the problems I have and many others have can be fixed with updates, but its a matter of when they release it and also, what they choose to fix/update. Apple may like the mail program as is and not do anything to change it.

I always said that iPhone is full of small "bugs" - and now it's here confirmed by some of the iPhone users.
Why all you here think, that apple will solve these sw problems? I think apple will behave the same as nokia or sony ericson - they also do not want to fix the problems of their phones - they do not have any reason why to do it. I think only some of them will be fixed, most of them will be fixed in iPhone 2.
I agree with the one that wrote this thread. Better to wait for iPhone 2 or at least for fixes (if there will be any) and lower price for unfinished phone.

Who stays connected to their email continuously during the day anyhow. I dont have mine yet but is it set to check email every 15 minutes or does it take 15 minutes for it to check email. Remember, it is a portable device. I know, some people are so attached that they never turn phones off and always want to check mail. Gee, there is a life out there. Unless you are one who is constantly logged on to phone, putter, whatever - the 15 minutes is no problem. Are we so afraid we are going to miss something these days. My current (nextel-notel) phone is used only when I am on trips, at night for calling family out of town, and when a number is long distance. Yes, will be nice to have a phone with the ipod attached, and the use to web if needed. I know there are those who cant live without, and I understand, but if that is the reason for returning, go ahead. If you lived close I would take yours. I orderd mine over the apple site , still waiting but okay with that. I get to hear what you are all saying and will know when mine is here what to do and not to do.

i think all the reviews and pretty much all the literature, was pretty clear that this was not a blackberry replacement or even a PDA phone.
i've had a treo and moto Q and yeah, the iphone doesn't do some or even a lot of what those devices do, however for what it does do, it does it extremely well. more than i can say about any smartphone i've had (palm or windows based). they do a lot of stuff, and do it all really badly.
i'm glad to be out of those nightmares, and i figure with time some sort of enterprise mail solution will come along. until then i'm not really concerned and have other ways around it.

Just like how they have no reason to update ipod software, yet they do constantly? Its one of the main reasons Apple has such a loyal fan base.

With all due respect Apple may actually be helping our future generation by not including words in their dictionary such as fo shizzle, or dat instead of that. The list goes on and on. I guess I am one of the very few who speak and type normal proper words, so the keyboard is welcome to me.

I hope you are kidding. Firstly, I am not using fo shizzle or anything close to that when typing. If I chose to put a "u" instead of "you" or abbreviate my words cause I am on the go and want to respond quickly, I believe I have the right to do so. Especially after paying $600+.

And to make things even better, about 1/4 of my calls dont even ring through to me. On the caller side it rings, but not on mine. I keep getting voicemail notifications and no missed calls.
I live in Los Angeles by the way. Hollywood to be exact, so its definitely not a service issue as I get a full signal.

I think you absolutely, 100% spot on!
They were eager to release it and though people are loving it, I believe those users are easy to please. Simple, everyday functions that could have EASILY been adopted early on, were left out and I can guarantee you that there are some very frustrated Apple employees that fought for these things and lost out.

Its called Ease of use and patients while waiting for a few updates. Most of what you describe (like the keyboard) is user error and not getting to know it. The keyboard learns from what you type and you dont have to pick the words it says, hence the X.

You are missing the point. Its not that I cant wait 15 mins for my email, its that Apple decided to put a limit on it and not give their users the option.
Whether I need my email checked every minute or every hour, is irrelevant. You have to take into account what your competitors are doing and when most other phones give their users the freedom to either set a check time or are automatically checking every 5 mins, it makes Apple look archaic.

Guys, we're all forgetting that Palm and RIM just released their first phone, 3 days ago, and got it perfect the first time. Why couldn't Apple?

The battery life is a lot less than they claim it is, and I haven't even played music on mine yet. The only way you could ever get the battery life they claim is if you turned the brightness nearly all the way down and only used the phone to make calls, never getting online or using it as an ipod.

All of this stuff will probably be addressed in future updates, nobody said the iPhone would do everything that everyone demanded and wanted on the day of release. Besides, you can just forward all of your e-mail to the Yahoo push account in the meanwhile.

Am I missing something? Where on blackberry can you do mass deletions except for delete all prior which requires you to delete an entire day at a time and won't delete emails prior to the particular email you pick?
I don't know, I've had a blackberry since the first generation. I find the iphone email to be perfectly easy to use and I'm already typing quicker on the iphone keyboard than I do on blackberry.
It would be nice if I could get my work email on here, which I can't currently, but all in all I find this to be a better all around device that's easier to use and more aesthetically pleasing than my old phone, blackberry and ipod together.
ETA-I am an idiot. I just discovered after 8 freaking years or however many it's been that I can hold down the 0 key and roll the scroll and select multiple emails. unfreakingbleievable.

Taking it back has crossed my mind as I am on my 3rd iphone and this last one works ok, but the coverage in the Cincinnati area is very intermittent. I had lunch at Subway today and the kid behind the counter has ATT with a full 5 bars on his flip phone, my Iphone had no signal. This signal thing drives me crazy and as far as the updates go, the Motorla Q, Treo 650 and a few others that I have had really never had updates to fix known problems. These phones got fixed by being discontinued and version #2 came out. I hear lots of comments about can't wait for firmware, software fix, that may well be wishful thinking. Just my opinion. Seriously considering a return. My phone was on at 8:00 and battery dead at 5:00.

I agree with AppleLA on most counts. What nobody has mentioned is that there is no menu system on the iPhone, all of the apps get their prefs from the main Settings application. So unlike Treo (and I assume BB) -- where there can be tons of menu items to do things (eg select all, delete, empty trash, etc), -- the iPhone only really gives us buttons (and gestures) to take actions. How about a swipe down the screen to delete all email (with confirm)? Hopefully things like this will be addressed soon.
I do love the web browsing, iPod, and youtube functionality, and it is one slick piece of technology.

Yeh or maybe a "shrinking" pinch to grab a bunch of mail and then tapping on a trash icon or something...
Everybody griping about the phone doesn't realize this is essentially v1.0 on a new mobile device. Anyone remember Macs OS X 10.0? That version really wasn't very usable until 10.1; imo at least the iPhone does more things right that it does wrong in that respect.

Not sure what your email volume is like, but I get over 100 emails a day, and that is on a slow day. Deleting them after the initial read is fine with me, but then having to go in and delete from the TRASH folder, one by one, is poor planning. You also have to delete from the SENT folder.
I probably get 500 a day. But I don't delete my e-mails I keep them all.
For years and years. In fact I have archives going back to 1994.
On the iPhone I share an Imap setting with my desktop. I delete an ocassional useless e-mail, but I have never had to mass delete anything on the iPhone. That being said I was very careful in setting up my e-mail on the iPhone specifically so I could manage it properly.
Do whatever you want, like what device you want, I doubt anyone else cares that much. If you feel a mass e-mail delete is a requirement for you, well that is your particular set of needs. But acting like your Blackberry is the be-all and end-all or better than the iPhone, well that is your opinion. And if you are basing it on something as trivial as mass e-mail deletion, well that is not saying much.
I suspect this is the kind of stuff that will be added in the coming months, as they roll out updates.
As for your other nits, actually the battery life doesn't suck. And as for the keyboard, the keyboard is great. Maybe you just prefer a little teeny tiny display. To each their own.

Guys, we're all forgetting that Palm and RIM just released their first phone, 3 days ago, and got it perfect the first time. Why couldn't Apple?
That's ok. When we all get free firmware updates to our phones, and you're using the same BB with a new face on it, we won't think twice about you. :D
RIM and Palm were new companies that released new devices. Apple has been around since the 80's and already has the experience. Dont make excuses for them.
They are using their own operating system, not something foreign to them. They should have made better use of it.

Wasted time.
these are major problems and you are justified in returning the phone. I'm holding our for a firmware update. I can live with the problems in the meantime.

Why does everyone complain about the deletion of multipul emails??? You just swipe your finger over it and tap delete and move on. Its a whole ONE finger swipe its not like 40 steps to delete it. Its crazyness what people complain about.
Well I'll tell you why. I came back from vacation the day before I bought my iPhone. After syncing it I found I had some 300 e-mails. I not only had to delete each one by hand, then I had to do it all over again to delete them from the trash. That's 600 time I had to delete e-mails! The other thing is the battery. I know of no other cell phone on the planet that doesn't have a replaceable battery. I can understand that maybe on an iPod, but it's totally unacceptable on a cell phone. Aside from the $85.00 rip off price for the battery I can't afford to be without my phone for 3 days as I use it for my business, and I don't think I should be asked to after spending $600.00.

Hey, It was Steve Jobs who said he was changing the face of cell phone's by introducing his state of the art phone. I think a select all to delete e-mails is a pretty common feature. I don't think a search feature in Contacts is to much to ask for. I don't even want to talk about the non replaceable battery. Do you really find packing it up and standing in a UPS line convenient?

this forum does not speak well for the quality of people who purchased this device. Any attempt at discussing the drawbacks is met with truly nasty, base and unintelligent responses. Makes me wonder whether I should keep the phone myself, given the level of many of its defenders.

Some people just want to hate the iPhone regardless of what it does. But for anyone who bought the iPhone last Friday expecting "PERFECTION" should never have stood in line. Apple made it very clear they were creating a "revolutionary" device, and were doing some things that have just not been done or tried before. So all of us who bought the iPhone were PIONEERS, and we all should have expected to be roughing it for a few months. Just like when some people download BETA apps, then complain when the app has bugs is beyond me. Well anytime something BRAND NEW is invented, any prudent person will realize there will be some bugs, some flaws early on.
My Visual Voicemail took 3 days to work correctly. Porting my number from Sprint to AT&T took 48 hours instead of 24. But I never threatened to return the iPhone because there were a couple of problems. I was smart enough to buy one EXPECTING there would be problems. And having been a Apple person for as long as I can remember, I know from experience Steve Jobs and company are hard at work on simple software updates to fix all the buggy little problems we're all complaining about. That's the magic of having an iPhone versus some other device...it can receive instant fixes via software updates.
So for all those complaining the iPhone wasn't more perfect that God, fine...take it back. That way Apple can resell it to someone who can really appreciate it at a discounted price. But for now I'm loving mine...bugs and all. I know it will only get better over time!
:2cool:
a VERY SMALL price to pay to get back to a device that has proven to work efficiently.
You are quite right. Thanks for your feedback. I'm also considering returning mine. Apple usually does a much better job on version 2.0 of their products.
I was expecting better out of them since they spent hundreds of millions on the hype machine. However to be fair it is important to remember that they have no experience with cell phones and unfortunately in this case it really shows.
If I return mine, then like you it will be a much smaller price to pay now. Later when ver 2.0 is released the value of these first iPhones will collapse badly.
Of course one could always keep it as a museum piece....:2cool:

Don't tell me about loving Apple. Over the years I have owned almost every computer they ever produced. The Apple2, 2plus,Mac 128K Mac Plus, Mac LC2, MAc G3 Mac G4 tower, iMAc G4 and currently Mac G5 2.7 gig tower. Not to mention the 6 iPods in this house, and now 2 iPhones. I think I have earned a right to be heard here! I think Apple is a very innovative company, but they are also masters of marketing. A search for contacts, and select all delete for e-mails are not simple over sights. Any company that produces such a beautiful product, and refines it to such a level, does not forget these basic features by accident. I am willing to bet that these simple fixes will not find there way into this phone, but will become part of the next gen. As far as the battery goes Pure corporate Greed! Do I hate Apple? Hell no. Do I think they make a great product hell yes. Do I think they know how to market? Indeed!

I don't have a problem with the speaker volume, especially when I remind myself that no iPod has ever had an external speaker before. I've survived this long with an iPod that had no speakers, so it's not an issue for me. And with the included wired headphones and a bluetooth headset, I never use the speakerphone feature either.
Granted, I admit Apple got a few things wrong on the iPhone, and it is not perfect. But I must also admit that Apple got a whole lot of things RIGHT as well. So you've gotta ask yourself if the things you DON'T like about the iPhone FAR outweigh the things you DO like about it? Are the problems SO SEVERE that your only alternative is to return it, or can you wait for Apple to release a few software fixes that would give you the device you always wanted (and stood in line just to get)? To have probably the hottest and most popular handheld device this short century, I can wait a couple of extra minutes for email, or deal with volume issues. When I think about how much I put up with on my Treo all these years, the iPhone's shortcomings don't even come close to being a true problem!

Well if you recognize how Apple works, operates, and markets it's products, I'm not sure what exactly you're complaining about??? Especially since you've been a strong supporter of its products over the years.
There is NO WAY Apple can include EVERY SINGLE FEATURE every single person would ever want, keep the device slim, AND keep it affordable. If Apple made the iPhone a handheld ATM machine, somebody would complain it only gives $20's and not $5's.
I don't work for Apple, so I can't say why they left out those features you feel are important. Nor can I say why Palm has never allowed WiFi in any of its TREO Phones, yet that never stopped people from buying it like crazy. No one is trying to take away your right to be "heard" as you say. But every device is just not going to do everything. For Apple's first true outing to create virtually a handheld computer (Mac OSX, iPod, Phone, Web, etc.), I'd say it was a pretty decent first job. But anyone who feels differently, fine...take it back. Somehow I doubt your returning it will shut the company down!

Who said anything about taking it back? I love this thing. I just agreed with an earlier poster. That's it. That's my take on it. This is the first cell phone I have owned myself. I waited for this phone for years. I'm not about to bring it back, but I still don't agree with, and will admit about some of it very real short comings. LOL yeah I guess it would have been nice to have a swappable battery. But then that also probably would have added thickness to the device, and I wouldn't have wanted that either.
I won't hold my breath for a removeable battery, since Apple proved long ago that won't happen on their iPod models. But I am looking forward to the software updates...and for anyone holding out for this so-called "Version 2" may be waiting a LOONNNGGG time. Enjoy your iPhone!

Can you use a bluetooth earpiece as headphones? In other words, can i listen to the ipod through my earpiece?
I am so disappointed with the iPhone.
If you think it won't work for you then you should return it. But if you are a long time Apple user you know a few things. First Apple software always comes out very basic and then is revised in later versions.
But to be honest they don't every pack their software full of features. I think a lot of your complaints will be updated in Software Updates.
To all of you who say this will not happen go back and listen to Steve Jobs comments about the way the are accounting for the iPhone on their books. He says they want to be able to add features to existing iPhone customers so they had to make an accounting choice up front so they would not have to charge these customers. So I think there will be Software Updates for free on existing customers phones.
With that said if auto checking email every 15 mins plus just check email as you feel like does not work for you then you need to get the tools that work for you.
I guess you could have done more research on it and waited a few weeks/months to see what others had said if these features are critical. But I can understand the rush to get one as I did the same.
I truly wish you good luck and hope Apple adds the features you want so that you can come back. For me the iPhone is great and I am sure will improve over time.

A couple things AppleLA, 1) Updates may address the deletion issue which seems to be your biggest issue. 2) You can manually check your email if you need it more often than 15 minutes. Thought the 15 minute timeframe is probably to preserver battery life. 3) You might be best served to just return the phone and go with one that you're happy with.
I think upon going back, you will notice the difference though in what the iPhone does do well. Good luck to you.

Those emails would all be gone after as little as a day if you configured the email client for it - there is no need to delete them all manually, the way you are supposed to work with the iPhone mail is to use it as a quick view onto recent mail. It's more managable to remove mail as it comes in instead of trying to bult delete it.
As for the battery, you wouldn't be an hour without the phone if you simply use the $30 iPhone rental and pop in the SIM from your current iPhone - considering that you might have to do that once every two years, that doesn't seem bad at all to me considering that a custom battery gives you more time than a replaceable battery in the same space.
If you are going on an international flight, simply use one of the many iPod battery packs to provide more power to the phone - they also charge the phone while in use so when you arrive you'll be able to call people.

With all due respect Apple may actually be helping our future generation by not including words in their dictionary such as fo shizzle, or dat instead of that. The list goes on and on. I guess I am one of the very few who speak and type normal proper words, so the keyboard is welcome to me.

I've been in an Apple Store 3 times this week, spending long periods of time interacting with the iPhone. I want to love this phone so badly but...
It obviously was not ready for prime time. Apple over promised and under delivered. There are so many shortcomings with this product. Watch the next few weeks for all the other people speaking up about their disappointment.
First of all, for all those saying "this is a new product, don't expect it to be perfect... Apple will be providing software updates... etc" that is unacceptable. The device is $600 and you're paying a minimum of $60/month. Email communication should be very sophisticated and flexible on the iPhone -- besides making a phone call email is the next most important feature for people away from their home or office. Getting email 4 times an hour maximum is simply not frequent enough. There should be push email for sure ala blackberry. Here are some of the other shortcomings:
-- Safari crashes frequently. It crashed 3 times in one 15 minute session I had with the phone
-- Some apps you can rotate, some you can't. You end up guessing, and oh surprise it won't rotate the view. Sometimes there is long delay. One video I went to on Apple's website didn't play and I just got a black screen. Some consistency would be good there.
-- if you're browsing the web, calls go directly voicemail. why?
-- expensive headphones won't work without an adapter.
-- no realtime ichat
-- can't update any info on the phone through bluetooth connection with your main computer. Lame.
-- the so called third party apps can't be stored on the phone itself. You have to bookmark them and can only get them while online. Jobs calls them "Web 2.0 applications" but there is another name for them: "websites". That is all they are. HTML/Javascript/AJAX. Not very sophisticated. No Java, No Flash, No games.
-- maybe I missed it but I couldn't find out how to search the music library with keywords like we do with iTunes on the desktop. Sometimes still the fastest way to find a track.
On the good side:
--beautiful industrial design and user interface.
--multitouch very innovative. Although constantly pinching and stretching web pages in Safari to get them how I like them to appear was a constant amount of work. Get's tedious after a while. Still better than all other phones but not perfect either.
-- great iPod features.
And yes I'm a mac nut. I have an 8 core mac pro, a 17 inch macbook pro, 30 inch Cinema Display, 3 ipods, Final Cut Studio, Aperture, and just about every other Mac accessory. Apple makes fantastic products but the iPhone just needed more time. 12 months from now it will be great. But now it is a double instead of a home run. For those that love it -- awesome. For those that are disappointed -- you're not alone.

Seriously if you think having email settings allowing every minute versus every quarter hour is the difference between a good or bad product you're crazy.
It's called ease of use. 99.99% of all users will be perfectly happy with Apple's choices. If you can't stand them, then you can return it. You want every option under the sun? Get a Windows Mobile product. And be ready to spend alot of your time dealing with hangs, crashes, and incompatibilities. Been there, done that. The iPhone is an excellent product, I think you have some things you frankly don't know about it and aren't really interested in learning. Your messages about having to delete the trash show that you didn't even take the time to properly setup your email that seems to be your big source of complaints.
Not sure what you are looking for here, but if you are looking for agreement or sympathy, this is the wrong place.

I disagree. I've owned almost every smartphone out there. The iPhone has been more stable so far (had it since iDay) then every other smartphone I've used. It doesn't have all the functions in the world, but the one it does have work great. That's not being released too early, that's called proper design. The hardest thing in designing a product (I do product planning for software products) is to decide what not to put in. And that's what makes the difference between a product that excels at it's task and one that's bloatware.

Well I can relate -- I design software for a living. Not claiming to know everything about everything, but I know apple quite well. Publicly, they disclosed that resources were diverted from Leopard to work on the iPhone. That's an indicator right there that it was a challenge to get it out on time and you can safely bet some features were "delayed" (aka scrapped) just to get it out the door. It shows. I'm not saying it's a disaster by any means. It's a very good product. But it's buggy and clearly rushed. The silver lining for the early adopters is that the hardware won't be obsolete for a long time and you WILL get software updates. And in the meantime you have a very usable mobile phone. But apple is capable of that extra icing on the cake.

There should be push email for sure ala blackberry. Here are some of the other shortcomings:
There is push email, but only from Yahoo. What other devices do consumer push?
-- Safari crashes frequently. It crashed 3 times in one 15 minute session I had with the phone
I've had it crash a few times, but not that often - but the nice thing is when it does crash you are just back Home and go into it again without restarting the phone.
-- if you're browsing the web, calls go directly voicemail. why?
That's only when browsing using EDGE, which can't support a voice call at the same time. If you are on WiFi you can take calls.
-- expensive headphones won't work without an adapter.
Only $9.99, and actually as someone else was telling me earlier today, the benefit is that the jack itself is then less prone to damage from headphones yanking the devices about (my 1st gen iPod jack is starting to have some issues so I think this may be a decent point, though I still wish it were less recessed.
-- no realtime ichat
Meebo works in the browser.
-- can't update any info on the phone through bluetooth connection with your main computer. Lame.
I'd like to see that to, but the nice thing is sync also is charging the phone.
There are some (very few) Javascript games. But I think we'll see some iPhone games rather soon from ITMS.
-- maybe I missed it but I couldn't find out how to search the music library with keywords like we do with iTunes on the desktop. Sometimes still the fastest way to find a track.
[QUOTE]
The closest you can come to that is configuing the iPhone part to have specific categories you are likley to search by on the front page, and having you use the scroll bar and letter seelction to jump quickly to items.
[QUOTE]--multitouch very innovative. Although constantly pinching and stretching web pages in Safari to get them how I like them to appear was a constant amount of work. Get's tedious after a while. Still better than all other phones but not perfect either.
Helped a lot using the double-tap to zoom on a text region. Also you can press the top bar (around the time) to jump quickly to the top of a page.

Greg, I'm paying $46 a month.. I have an old cingular voice plan that is $26 a month.. add the iPhone unlimited data plan for $20 and I'm only paying $46.. in the long run, I'll be saving more money than the average blackberry user who pays $39.99 for unlimited data ALONE... I love my iPhone

Hey, sorry the IPhone was not for you, and I can understand that. I have the IPhone and a Blackberry 8800 from work. They definitely serve 2 different types of people, and 2 very different audiences.
Maybe when the IPhone updates the software and tweaks it and adds the bunch of features that they are supposed to be, you might change your mind.
Remember, the version of software is 1.0, so this is the same version as whenever they started manufacturing, which means it is quite old. Probably since the announcement in Jan 2007. When they provide the update, the first of which is supposed to come out before Leopard, I am sure that a lot of peoples' concerns will be addressed.

you should give it a chance i mean they are going to fix these problems through updates and then some. and for me the battery is not a problem cuz hwens the last time i had to replace a phone battery or even ipod battery for that matter? never.and if it comes down to it cool i send my iphone in the apple and i get it back within a week for free. no problem.
The squirrels view on these whiney bit*he's:
All I hear are all these damn complaints about battery life and being able to do certain things like copy and paste. Damn people. We have to learn to crawl before we can walk right? Right. Some yall seem to have forgotten that this is apples first phone and you all knew to expect a few bugs along the way. The issues will have to be addressed. If all of the one million iPhone were returned that would look bad on apple. So its certain that there will be and update to fiX these problems. As for the keyboard issues some of you are bit*hing about.... Well I have no problems with it at all. I find it fun. It does take some time to get used too but hey it works fine. It was not meant to type out your damn thesis on thermodynamics but its made to get your message across. If you feel the need to return your phone go right ahead and I will quote someone......"dont let the door hit yah on yah way out".....oh yeah.... The dictionary learned all my words so it knows me. I think your phone hates you.

RIM and Palm were new companies that released new devices. Apple has been around since the 80's and already has the experience. Dont make excuses for them.

I've owned almost every smartphone out there.
I have too.
The iPhone has been more stable so far (had it since iDay) then every other smartphone I've used.
Wish I could say that. My iPhone experience has been very mixed.
And I'm writing this from my new MacBook Pro, my 6th Apple laptop. I'm on my 4th new iPod, love em all.
Based on my long time Apple experience I'm standing ready to plunk down the cash for the next version. Hurry Apple, you can do much better that this, you always do after a few tries.

It is funny how folks try to compare the iPhone to a BlackBerry. That is like comparing an Apple to an Orange. I own both an 8700c Blackberry and an 8Gb iPhone. Each function well at what they were intended to do :2cool:

I agree with you, they are two different devices within one group (mobile smart phones).
I read it more as an observation, not a comparison. It seemed to be a comment on what was important to the OP and what device provides that feature.
My iPhone is definitely an Apple entertainment device.
My BlackBerry is a professional communications device.
My Samsung A717 is a Fast 3G, ultra thin & light flip phone.
My MacBook Pro is certainly an Apple computer.

I wasn't going to comment, but I can not help it. On the removable battery complaints, in all the years of having cell phones, I have NEVER once needed to purchase a new battery. By they time the battery dies (if ever), I'm ready for a new phone. I don't need an extra battery to carry around for long flights; that's what portable power adapters are for.
My battery has been doing great with constance use. I've only fully charged it twice and it is still performing great.
But to each his own. If it is not working for you, buh bye. Seems the BB is better for your use.

Well put...

Why does everyone complain about the deletion of multipul emails??? You just swipe your finger over it and tap delete and move on. Its a whole ONE finger swipe its not like 40 steps to delete it. Its crazyness what people complain about.
Like most, I have more than one email, but some folks have way too much spam on an email account. They want to be able to delete a hundred at a stroke.
Sounds like some folks need a new email account. But that's the reason for the complaint.

Seems pretty narrow minded to think that the iPhone is the end all for every single user in the whole world. The iPhone ISN'T for everyone... and there is nothing wrong with people wanting what they want, especially for a premium price. I certainly understand that.

I'll never understand how people have trouble with the keyboard. I just got my iPhone a day and a half ago and I fly on the keyboard. It's much easier and much quicker. Oh well...
I don't want to jump in bewtween warring factions, but here is my input.
I am switching from a Nextel Blackberry. Things I don't miss from my Blackberry:
1) not being able to see the screen half the time if the light is not just right.
2) not having to push the light button all the time to enable me to see the screen.
3) the muted grey / blue hues of my "color" display.
4) my bent antenna.
5) not being able to visit actual websites.
6) not being able to see actual websites the way I see them on my PC.
7) did I mention the display?
I will miss my push to talk. I'll miss the awesome speaker phone on the Blackberry. That's about it. I already prefer the iPhone calendar, Notes, Email, not to mention all the things the Blackberry could not dream of doing.

The problem occurs for those of us coming from a Treo or BB on which two-handed thumb-typing was so natural. This keyboard works well for one-finger typing, but two-handed thumb typing is just terrible.
I require alot of business-type use (good PIM, email, docs, etc) and am willing to hold out for an update, but I'm not going to say it's been easy, and I'm not going to STAY if things aren't resolved soon. There really is alot missing here.

I've had my iPod for years and used it every day over those years and I've had to send it in for battery service exactly zero times. The battery is just as strong and long lasting as it was the day I bought it over 2 years ago.
My iPhone will be replaced by the next generation iPhone long before the battery needs to be replaced. Few people who are interested in cutting edge phones keep them more than 2 years.
The built in battery issue is a moot point.

its funny because all the "problems" stated in the first post of this thread were known features or lack there of , months before the phone came out. nobody to blame but yourself for thinking you were getting gods gift to pda's when it was never stated it was a pda at all. its a smartphone. its not a business solution its a multimeda solution . suck it up. should have done your research before you bought. i love the keyboard on mine , it senses if you type slang more than twice and adjusts its spell check accordingly. thats just ONE issue i will address for you.

i'm right there with you. i'm returning my iPhone. The keyboard is a little annoying, but yes, when you get used to it, you can deal with it. here's what bugs me... after 2 days. i had programs quitting on me, and throwing me back to the main page. No cutting and pasting is a bigger deal than i thought. the text messages look cool, but really not good, because i can't forward a message, and i can't send the same message out to multiple people without having to type it all over again. the email sucks, because i can't put any attachments. so if i wanted to email more than one picture, i have to do it one at a time. another pain. i made one phone call that was about 15 or 20 minutes, and my battery went from full to half. i really wanted to find reasons to keep this phone, but for the price i paid, i dont want a phone that's just "alright". I'll just see what happens when the next version comees out... i'll just be sure that i dont run out and get it the first day.

You are crazy, go get your cheap blackberry back. Its Been 2 weeks, of course there are going to be a few glitches off the launch. The first update will help a few of your problems. Settle down and give it a chance maybe.

I had the pearl for 2 months,,it was just ok, the iphone is much easier for my fat figners to use , and I can actually see the fricking thing!!haha anybody want to buy a fairly new pearl?

SUCK IT UP!
YOU WILL join in and experience the Apple Reality Distortion Field, where the only reality is what we (APPLE) program you to believe.
You no longer have the right to think for yourself.
You are forbidden from being an individual.
You will defend Apple against, the "outsiders". Enemies, all of them.
Spew your venom!
Feeling challenged using your iPhone? Dislike some of the "Features"?
Suck It Up Bucko!
This IS the New Apple Slogan...:tounge:
