music *and* videos?

iTunes doesn't seem to want you to transfer both music and videos to the iPhone (mine is 3G, firmware 2.1). I was able to fake out itunes ver 7.x and download music after downloading the videos I wanted.

Now with ver 8.x of itunes, my 'trick' no longer works. If I try to download music playlists after downloading videos, all videos get erased from the iPhone. Downloading videos after downloading playlists results in erasure of all my music.

This is nuts.

What am I missing? There has to be a way around this.

Ah, red-faced me. I figured it out about 25 minutes after I made my post. You have to sync music and videos at the same time.

Since I like to manually control my sync'ing, I was trying it one then the other.

I sure hate having to think like the one-way, straight-jacketed itunes. Argh!
