I will somewhere next week buy my first iPhone. But I am not sure should I go for 2G or 3G iPhone. I know that the 2G can be unlocked with a software, but I would prefer to have newer model with more options like 3G. I am not sure can it be unlocked and is this a safe thing, I mean I dont want to pay for something that wont work or even worse damage my new gadget. So what are some recomendations which phone is better from the standpoint of unlocking.

At this point, you cannot unlock the 3g. Maybe later.

The 2g phone can be unlocked and is easy to do.

Been with T-Mobile for a month and love it!

We travel a lot and final straw was being in DC and NYC end of summer with new 3G and it would never connect for GPS, go to complain at NYC ATT store and it was 80+ people all in the same line also P@#@ at same issues.

All the time ATT selling me a $60 (corporate rate) bill.

Have turbo sim in and works great.

ATT lovers try and convince them self's that "Yea but its not 3G" 3G when it works can be ok, but when you add in how many times it doesn't work, battery life kills ya, and the cost.

I take edge/wifi and a $30.00 cheaper bill with T-Mobile and unlimited texting vs. 200 min ATT.

Again not trying to down one vs. the other but at Howards forum if you don't have 3G and stay ATT loyal you get hit from all sides.

Thanks, OJsakila and Timm

Timm I kind of aggree with you. I prefer 3G but not under any circumstances. I think I will go the 3G route and will decide which sim card to take with it. I have seen this one http://www.iphone-sim-unlock.com/
as a candidate. It seems that this card is exactly what I need.
I am not sure why is apple embarrasing themsleves with such restrictive policies, but I don't want to take part in that.
