it's also weird that in the iPod demo, Jobs showed the time controls on the on- screen controls. but there is no place that says how far you are into the song or anything in the music player

As I mentioned in my comment, it's very cool if the iTMS will carry dedicated ringtones but can you imagine how foolish Apple will come off looking if iPhone's MP3s can't be used for iPhone's phone? For this reason alone, I'm sure it will happen.

Fun, informative video. Thanks for the link.
I don't think there's any doubt that you will be able to go through iTunes music store to get ringtones for the iPhone. I hope the directions idea comes through with Google Maps.

I think this article (http://theappleblog.com/2007/02/02/apple-patents-connection-of-iphone-to-itunes-store), which I hadn't yet seen, locks that up.
I think it also means that purchasing A/V content, not just ringtones, is going to happen (another incentive for Apple to develop a 3G iPhone).

How many features do you think Jobs left out of his keynote earlier in the year? I'd say there are going to be at least two big sized features that are unknown to all (most) of the public. I think better communication with the iPhone and iTunes/music store would be a nice feature to have.

GPS would be nice but without 3G speeds it would just be too slow.

I think it kinda sucks you can't use full length mp3 files you buy from itunes as ringtones. You will have to buy different ones specifically from the ringtones store as far as I know...

You'll probably be able to edit your own .mp3 files and put them on your phone. I do it all the time with my Motorola.

The button that he couldn't identify in the Google Maps was the picture of a fork and a knife. Most GPS systems have this feature where you can click on it and it will show you adjacent restuarants and Cafes.

I think the google thing is going to be really cool, but only for a while. Just like me Crimson Treo 680, its cool for a while, and I feel good showing it off to someone whose never seen it before, but before long, it will be just another peice of plastic that sit on my coffee table with my dusty Ipod. Ok I lied. Im on my phone all the time. And Im addicted to my phones, I have them for about two months and then I need the next best thing. I am totally excited about the iphone.

That was funny. Kind like the Muppets' Staler & Waldorf in reverse:
W: That was wonderful!
S: Bravo!
W: I loved it!
S: That was great!
W: Well, it was pretty good.
S: Well, it wasn't bad.
W: There were parts that weren't very good, though.
S: It could've been a lot better.
W: I didn't really like it.
S: It was pretty terrible.
W: It was bad.
S: It was awful!
S & W: Terrible! Get 'em away! Boo!

That is exactly what I thought it looked like, but if that's the case, then I hope it can be customized. Maybe someone would rather look up hotel chains, gas stations, public locations, gyms, etc. You get my point? I mean sure, the idea of having a button there for restaurants is cool, but I just think it would be a little better if Apple/Google would let the user customize what button to have there for their conveniance.

The link is amazing and I am impressed at how dedicated some are to asking and find answers to questions they have such as ringtones and being able to use your own songs for them or not. I was also glad that the link talked about the calendar feature which was missing from the keynote. I had wondered why it wasn't discussed and what it would be like. The video gave some great insight.
These hidden details are amazing and I feel like a kid at christmas! This phone clearly has a future and much more to offer and upack as the years go by.

i did it with my old moto too - now i have a 680 and you need a program to even have mp3 ring tones (doesnt bother me with this phone b/c i dont use the headphones ever)
i'm going to be really upset if you cant use your itunes music as ringtones because without ring tone id you wont be able to tell who is calling when you get a call while using the headphoens the iphone comes with
hope you can still edit your own!

3g is not 3gbs.
The 4 and 8 refers to the ammount of space.
3g is a connection.

There will still be a host or different ringtones, both musical and mechanical, to differentiate incoming calls. Don't worry about that (see previous posts). The question is whether or not we'll be able to use our iTunes collection as well.

As wjp09 said, 4G/8G (actually 4GB/8GB, i.e. 4 gigabytes/8 gigabytes) are the storage capacities of the iPhone models. 3G (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3g) (i.e. third generation) is a mobile phone data transmission standard.
It's admittedly confusing. To make matters worse, when the iPhone is eventually updated, the new model will likely be called the 2G (second generation) iPhone, just as the current iPod is 5G (fifth generation). In fact, you could argue that the iPhone will be the 6G iPod.
Therefore, in June you will have the opportunity to buy an 8G 1G/6G iPhone.
But not 3G.

Don't you mean 8GB
And it wouldn't be a 6G iPhone, because it's not only an iPod, but a phone and an internet device. So I really don't think that you can argue it to be a 6G iPod.

yeah i guess that is my main concern - ive read some rumors that you will have to pay for seperate ring tones through itunes and normal mp3 songs wont work - i think that on the itunes picture in the keynote there was a tab titled "ring tones" when the iphone was plugged in...i hope they don't cost extra (even though i have a feeling they will be $.99 like other mp3s)

Don't you mean 8GB
Just keeping with the OP's terminology. Plus, I used a literary device called consonance (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=consonance) to add humor. I think my post makes it clear.
And it wouldn't be a 6G iPhone, because it's not only an iPod, but a phone and an internet device. So I really don't think that you can argue it to be a 6G iPod.
Regarding "6G iPod" I was kind of kidding around, eh? But the debate team could absolutely argue the iPhone is a 6G iPod, in a manner of speaking (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/satire). I'm not calling it that. Apple's not calling it that. In fact, I'm sure Apple's already got an actual 6G iPod in the works. But there sure is a full-fledged iPod in that ol' iPhone isn't there? Perhaps it would have been less distasteful if I'd said, "you could argue that the iPhone will contain the 6G iPod."

Hey, that is a really interesting video! Thanks for sharing it with us. I am intrigued by the iTunes section with the "Ringtones" tab. I can't wait to see whether or not it's going to happen!
