Have you been Zhiinged today?
Zhiing is a free LBS (Location Based Service) for sending real-time messages with map and driving directions to and from mobile phones and to the automotive GPS system, Dash™. zhiings can be sent from mobile device to mobile device and from computer to mobile device.
With the zhiing browser add-on installed, the software recognizes physical addresses and enables users to send those addresses from their computer to themselves or any mobile number by clicking on the zhiing icon next to the address.
Come try it out! http://www.zhiing.com

More about the sushi or the application? The spam sushi I had in Hawaii and I guess there are times you will eat anything. But if you are talking about Zhiing - very fun, useful and even helped to save someone's life recently.
You can follow the growth of the product here: (it's a map to show how it's growing)

Looks awesome! So all one has to do is Zhiing a friend & he or she will receive a text message with the directions from their location to yours. It will even have voice guided directions? That would help so much with friends meeting up with each other & not being very familiar with the area.
edit: I just played with it on mine & my gf's iPhones & it works pretty well. No voice guided directions. An SMS is received, notifying you about a a message in Zhiing. Access Zhiing & read the message. At that point, you can reply to the sender & also look at the map to see directions to the friend. It opens Google Maps with Map from your location to the senders with text directions. Pretty clean & simple.

hmm. Interesting how it started as spam (I guess it should still be considered as spam) but it was actually useful to someone (ZR_Yancy)

Not all spam is bad. But this post was definitely spam. Take it for what it's worth.
Personally, I think there are too many variations on this theme already.

LOL.... when I activated the Zhiing app, I already had a message waiting in my inbox. I opened it up & it was some message from a phone number I wasn't familiar with. I pulled up the map & it showed directions from my location in Florida to somebody in California! Yikes!!!

What benefit do people (developers) like Ziinger get from offering their apps for free to people?
Do you guys get any monetary benefits or is it more about the verbal kudos?
Why do you want people to install your app?
Looks/Sounds like a great app. This post just piqued my curiosity a bit as to how things work.

There are over a thousand app's now in the iTunes Store. I say Kudos to people like Apple who encourage enterprise that only in the long run creates brand loyalty. Creation of an app can be done by anyone with the know and desire.
Zhiing's LBS app is advancing technology in a way that we really don't know how far it will go in helping people. This is a very real story about how this app helped to save someone's life.
