Google has released Google Earth for iPod Touch/iPhone. Its on AppStore as a FREE download.

It's fast and impressive! I like the Autotilt feature where the view tilts toward the horizontal if you hold the phone horizontally. They've done a nice job using various gestures too. The docs are a little buggy though. The app crashed several times trying to get help on stuff. For an initial version, I'd give it a big thumbs up.

As of now I like earthscape better, but I'm sure google earth will improve.

It's very nice. Found my house from the earth view very quickly.

Question....

When a new app like this comes out and seems "buggy" do you wait for an update or do you load it as is??

Dont want to have to re-install anything...

When an app is free, better download now. By update time, they could be charging for the app. Once you "buy" the app for free, all future updates will also be free regardless of what the current price of the app is.

Someone please explain why this isn' t totally redundant if you have google maps? Also, what is the difference between this and Earthscape?
Thanks in advance?

I feel the same way, though I did download it, I'm not all impressed with it over using maps. I know that you can do the horizion view on maps, but google earth doesnt even give you steet names... I think its more of a novelity than anything else.

Anyone know how to manually tilt if you turn OFF auto-tilt?

Yeah, it's basically Earthscape with the Google name on it. But, it's free. I did get Earthscape while it was free but don't you have to pay for it now?

I agree. I had it on the phone for about 5 minutes and deleted it.

I download this app and already deleted it. I don't think it's impressive at all.

Two-fingered drag up/down.
