Some of us do it some dont? but i have albums on my iphone of music that i got from firesharing sites and i dont just have the Cd's.

I have a new computer, and i just installed itunes most current version. I have no need for my old laptop, so when i sync my iphone to the new computer will it erase all my songs from my phone? Also if i log into itunes, will my entire song library be put on my new laptop?

You can back up your entire library onto a DVD, assuming you have a DVD burner. It's a new option with iTunes 8. I think the option is under the file tab in iTunes.

Then you just insert the DVD into the new computer, log into your iTunes account and you should be good to go.

Have an external USB or Firewire drive handy? Connect it to your laptop, copy your entire iTunes library on to it, then connect it to your new computer and copy it over to the same location...

Considering how much you paid for the music to begin with, I think you can invest at least a little time if you want to keep it, eh?

Is your old laptop a Mac? I just purchased the new Macbook and with the removal of the firewire port on the new model, pc to pc transfer is available through ethernet cable. It only took an hour and was very straightforeward. I started the transfer went to sleep and in the morning my 2 Macs Mirrored one another. I'm sure the option is available with Windows machines just not familiar with it. They can do it for you at the Apple Store but will charge $56 or so and want you to leave your laptops with them for a least a day

It was a ****ty Dell to Acer transfer. My notebook, is a Dell XPS. My buddies is an Acer. I needed a new laptop for the time being and as of now vista is pissing me off. Ive installed programs from my old laptop like firefox, games and crap and vista keeps uninstalling them after a while. Im so done with windows...and im not spending extra money to downgrade to XP. Like this morning vista wouldnt even let photoshop run...and when i allowed it to, vista magically lost the file i was trying to finish.

Ive heard acers are pretty much the most crappy laptops you can buy but i wont tell my buddy that.

Im going to make the switch 100% now. I can still return this crappy laptop.

So wait you're going from a Dell XPS to an Acer? WTF. Although I just got my oh so beautiful Macbook I still daydream of having a Dell XPS 1330 (had one, then returned it.)

But as far as the backup issue...I'm in the boat with my phone and new Mac I haven't synced them yet. I think I'm going to just print the playlist of songs on my iPhone and iPoT then manually add them back.
