View Full Version : Can I get a few opinions on the 3G iPhone?

I owned the original iPhone, and I was content with it- except for the few major flaws it had. No MMS, no copy/paste, etc. I've thought about getting the new 3G iPhone but first wanted to know if Swirly MMS is working on AT&T yet with the 3g. I remember it never working on AT&T because they're douche bags who won't let their users have MMS plans. Along with that, how is the phone so far?

Great phone. I also had the first one and as long as you don't need to unlock to another carrier, the 3g is superior. No, swirly is still quite buggy..just like before... But if your city/town offers 3g....GET IT. Sell your 1st gen for mega bucks and you just made a profit... ...kind of.

I sold mine before the 3G came out. I unlocked it and managed to get the full retail price I had paid for it.

I just can not get over the lack of MMS.

No doubt that sux but the "pros" out weigh the "cons." I guess if it's that big of a deal then you have some real thinking to do..........Evenwithout mms, the iphone is superior to any phone out there

The only other phones I'm thinking about getting are the LG Vu, Dare, Voyager, Viewty.

Two of those four would involve me switching phone companies which doesn't sound too bad right about now.

Also I think it comes down to the keyboard, some people just have too hard of a time using it than compared to a physical keyboard that are on for example blackberry's.

No matter what feed back you get on here, its all a matter of personal preference. The best way to know if you will like it is to tinker with it, and even with that there really is no way to know until you have one and are using it on a regular basis. I personally LOVE mine! Typing is an adjustment :(

I totally agree! ... There is no doubt that we have had to compromise what to most are two very important features. However I believe as well that it is a matter of personal preference. Make sure it is the right device for you, before you make the commitment.

I have a coworker that has one of the LG "touch screens". What a piece of crap. She hates it, and this was BEFORE I let her try my iPhone.
If you are looking at a new phone, Then the ones that you should be looking at are the Android G1 and the Crackberry Thunder. The HTC Touch HD is supposed to be a huge step up from their original Touch phone, and rumor says that it will have android on it in the near future.

Personally though, while getting any new phone warrants ewws and Ahhs for the first few days/weeks, the real meat of it all is how you use it long term, and whether or not you can accept the limitations (cause there are always limitations) of the phone.
When my V1 phone broke, and I had to use my old Nokia 6620 for 2 days, I was devistated. I mean I use the iPhone for so many things that not having it, even for a day was like having an arm taken away.
It will get a lot better over the next 2 years - unless Apple decides to continue to keep certain possible aspects squashed, but even then, it can only get better still.

Imagine that in 5 years from now, the tech might be available to have the phone at less than a .5cm thick? Or foldable? or Both!

I'm going to say that the iPhone is certainly one of the best (if not the best) phones on the market. The iPhone 3G only improves upon that. If you are with AT&T and are covered by 3G then I would certainly suggest upgrading. You are already familiar with the iPhone so the switch won't take anytime at all.

I too have wanted MMS since the announcement of the phone but it won't come. Apple is stubborn in thinking that no one sends MMS anymore so they won't give it to us and AT&T isn't going to provide it somehow either.

I'm sure soon enough, everybody will have smart phone...
Then you can just email picture to them instead of MMS...

Plus, already so many people have iPhone now.... :tounge:

(I realized all my friends have iPhone now... LOL)

The issues you consider major are only minor/don't care for me. I've been using MobileMe for everything (mail, contacts, calendar, bookmarks, syncing two Macs and one PC) for well over two months now without a major snag. Loving it!
