Hey guys, I just wanted to say its been fun, and enjoyed talking to most of you, I however think I am going to switch from AT&T to Sprint for a few different reasons, price, service, phone.

Price - I don't see paying what I do for my service and phone when I don't use most of the features.

Service - I am told I get 3G here in Houston area, but don't so why pay for it.

Phone - Don't use half the features so why have it, when I get something else at Sprint and save $70 a month, as I have 2 i phone 3G's

With that said I will have 2 iphones for sale in the next day or so

- a 16 GB White phone with a casemate (nice case)
- a 8 GB Black - Cheaper rubber case
Both in brand new condition, no dents, straches, both have been in a case.

I know this is not the spot to sell, but that was not the main point of the post. But if interested feel free to send me a message on here.

I use to have Sprint and they had pretty good phone service, yet they really lacked in Customer Service as I am sure they still do, but what can ya do.

Sprint is the oppostite overs here. They have the worse signal. Anyway if it's gonna save u money then that'll be the best thing to do. I enjoy this iphone but I'm really lookng at the storm. Have fun and look into the instinct. Cheaper price and plans.

Which phone(s) are you planning on getting?

If you live in Houston proper you should have 3g service, at least according to ATT coverage map. Not sure why are not getting it. Do you have it turned on?

Coverage maps are notoriously inaccurate.

If you live in Houston and your not getting coverage then that goes beyond an inaccurate coverage map, IMO.

Yea I agree. If you are in the heart of the 3G area, you should have service. If you are on the outskirts though, it might be a different story.

@bls
How are you going to be saving $70/month?

Basically with my discount at AT&T I get and what I pay for is $70 less at Sprint for the same thing with my discount so why not switch. You guys are right the map says I should have 3G service but I don't. I have been to AT&T, Apple, everything.

ANd what have they said? IF you are paying for 3G network and it is not working for you, you should not be paying? Did you ever get your 3G exchanged at all?

What did they tell you apple? At&t? do they have other 3g phones there that are showing 3g?

I'm a new iphone 3g purchaser, also new iphone user - trying to get used to it! My problem is trying to send an email. Even if I try to reply it says I may have an invalid address. Do you have to be connected to a WiFi to send/receive emails, or do you just have to have phone service?
I'm using MS Outlook 2007 as my email application, did get things to synchronize, but want email to be able to be received and sent when out of the office ----
Any help out there? What am I doing or not doing????

Did you make sure that Mail is set up properly on your iPhone?

Who knows what is correct anymore? I made sure that both my yahoo account and my work mail account matched the settings on outlook. Still it won't send any email.

I do not have exchange server, we have a small business that utilizes outlook only.

Is that a problem with getting and/or sending mail?

Well what I would do with your yahoo account since the iPhone has a one click set up with it is get rid of your yahoo account on your phone, delete it. Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calender>YahooMailAccount>scroll all the way down, then delete account
Now go back into Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calender Then select Yahoo!mail
Fill out the information then you are all set.

Then if you want "push" or Mail to go out and "fetch" the mail go into Settings>Fetch new Data>Advanced then select fetch, push, manual.

As for your work email, your best bet would be to contact your IT department and they should be able to help you.

I will delete and have the iphone set it up, which I think I let it set it up originally.

As far as the IT department, that is me, there is no IT, we are a SMALL company with 4 computers, all with Outlook 2007.

When I turned the WiFi on and it connected, then emails were received but it still wouldn't send.

Any other ideas?

Just make sure that the outgoing smtp address is correct, and possibly the ports. Do you have your own domain for the company?

EDIT:::makes sure when entering server addresses that you are using . (periods) not the @ symbol like in an email address. Those are easy to look over and a habit to put in.

Yes I have checked all of those and they are correct with the settings in the outlook mail program. No @'s anywhere.

Do you get and receive email on your iphone without microsoft exchange for outlook?

I do not have 3g coverage where I am either, but I am still hopelessly addicted to my iPhone :) Good luck with the switch!

I cant say as I blame you for leaving, I myself am getting fed up with the
inadequacies of the iphone. Half the email I receive I cant view because it contains mime content, if I try to view certain web sites I cant because I don't have and cannot install the correct applet to view the page and have the same problem with connecting to the 3G network. Let's not forget the battery issues, if I talk on the phone for any period of time the battery is all but drained even though I've made sure to turn off any and all functions that could possibly use the battery when not in use. What good is having GPS, 3g or the fetch function if you have to have them disabled to conserve the battery? I don't even want to talk about not having the ability to send or receive MMS messages.

Will Apple do anything to address any of these issues? Not as long as these phones are still selling as many units as they have been and they have their current customers under a contract.
