Does anyone have any rumors on when the new Apple in-Ear headphones are being released? The Apple store just says the "Shipping Soon" and I've read its supposed to be October.
Also, it doesn't say they are compatible with the Iphone 3G. I find that hard to beleive.

Not compatible probably means that they won't have a microphone on them, like the current ones.

so is it only a ear piece and not a mike..?

Right here on the apple website it says that they have a mic http://www.apple.com/ipod/inearheadphones/
Also at the bottom it has a box titled compatibility information
The remote and mic are supported only by iPod nano (4th generation), iPod classic (120GB), and iPod touch (2nd generation). Audio is supported by all iPod models.

Ugh... I've been waiting for these headphones. It's now almost December and there is no sign of them, even though Jobs said to expect them in october. Maybe they are in the same place as push for the 3rd-party apps. I have a feeling that the mic and remote are just not compatible at this moment, but there is a planned iPhone software update to fix that. I hope that's the case because I am hooked on the remote. Any one else have news on the release date?

I was weary of the wait, so I purchased Griffin Smart Talk mic (with switch that does apple-stuff with the music) from MacMall. I already have some very nice stereo earbuds I like. I'm satisfied.
I may not purchase the Apple set, because I have something that works and because the Apple set are white, causing a maximum "gotta-steal that" response.

yeah, i'm not a fan of the white either. hate to be pigeonholed as an apple fanboy... as superficial as that is. Otherwise, they look nice. I'd be curious to hear how they sound and feel.
If i had to guess, i'd say the mic is not supported on the iphone because of voice recording for memos.

They are out now. From what I've read its just the volume control that is not compatible with the Iphone 3G. Everything else works. Its be nice to hear from someone who has bought and tried them.

That's not such a big deal... I've gotten pretty used to adjusting the volume through a layer of fabric when the phone is in my pocket. Although it could be a pain for people that like to keep it in a bag or backpack while listening to music.

Yeah, I just confirmed this same info with an Apple Tech rep. Thanks to all who stuck with this thread.
Now I'd like like to hear from someone who actually used them and what their experience was like.

the page (from the link you provided) says included in box for iphone and iphone 3g. does that mean that the new iphones come with these headphones instead of the ones we all got?

hmm... it says the normal stereo headphones (no mic or clicker) are included in the box for iphones... which is not true, so i imagine it's a typo.

ya, all the hardware is already there so only a software update would be necessary

I think we should know better than to hope for a software fix.

I think we actually can hope for this. How soon, I dont know...They added the triple click for previous song to our current headphones so why wouldn't they do it for the new headphones with the volume?

I cannot wear the standard buds that iphone comes with, my ears are too small and they hurt like a B*#tch when I have them on, but I need/want the clicky thing to answer calls and ipod control.

That's a great idea. Have you done this and if so what ear buds and cabeling did you use and was there any effect on performance?

That would be great, but I seriously don't know how to solder? I would be too nervous to try, I would probably just pay the money. I am thinking of taking my earbuds back to Apple that came with iphone because it's not changing my songs when I click.

@glsda &iphoneconnie
it's very very simple,i've done it dozen times for me and my friends..it takes 15 minutes max! as i said in previous post,i have jvc marshmallow on iphone cord. it works like a charm! of course that there isn't any effect on performance, why would it be? you just desloder original buds solder the ones that you like..that's not risky at all becouse some guy over in Taiwan/China in factory also soldered original buds to the cord..
here's the link that gave me the idea for that (you'll se how simple it is): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLzs5aHv3jI

I love the lanyard style. (Hang around your neck and up to your ears, so they don't pull out all the time).
I've been buying the ones from Rivet just for this feature. (I also have small ears and greatly prefer the "3-size adapter" earbuds to the apple type).
Only problem with the rivets, they wear out and/or break too quickly. (I'm on my third pair).
I just got my Z-Buds from Zagg two days ago. Haven't used them yet, but they look like a great upgrade from the Rivets.

Just got the apples today (they have them at woodfield mall for any chicago area folks). Haven't got a good chance to listen to them yet but I'll let you guys know what I think. I mostly listen to rap so what I look for in a pair of headphones might be different than what some others might look for

Ok after listening to these for a bit yesterday. They sound really good. Bass could be a little more powerful, but in no way is it weak. The highs and mids are very crisp and clear. I just wish the silicon tips weren't clear. They seem like they're going to get dirty really quick. Also I hope they fix the volume control problem in an update or something. Because I would really like to adjust the volume from the headset.

The mic quality is good. Haven't heard any complaints about it.

We've received our first shipment of the new cables and have mated them to the Future Sonics FS1 earbuds. The mic on these is very good, in our initial tests it is outperforming the standard iPhone headset.
At this point, we feel like customers should buy these headsets for their iPhone. Even though the volume buttons don't work (yet), the overall remote size is only slightly bigger than the iPhone version and you'll have a future proof headset.
