My phone spazzed the other day while connected and it somehow tried to sync all of my music that was already on my phone. When doing so, it didn't update anything in iTunes but when looking at the space taken by "Other" in iTunes, it showed a tad over 3 gigs which is coincidentally how much music I already had on the device.

So, I did a restore and have nothing on it now besides pictures that were synced before I restored and now it's showing 306.1 MB taken by "Other"

Is this normal? I'm just afraid it backed up or carried over some extra non-sense when I synced from my previous backup.

I too would like to know what "other" space even consists of. It cant be album art or emails, because neither are that extensive on my iphone 3g. Besides I only have 50 contacts with no pictures, and about 20 bookmarks. What could other possibly be?

Yeah, that's normal. You should do a "search" on the forums though, as this question has been beaten to death. Other covers everything other than music, photos, apps, ringtones, and videos. So e-mail, attachments, bookmarks, contacts, calendars, etc. Mine hovers at about 250MB, so that's about normal. Some people have reduced the file sizes by restoring their phones in iTunes.

So e-mail, attachments, bookmarks, contacts, calendars, etc.
Also txt messages, app info such as game progress or the level you are on, recent calls, voice mail, and on and on.
Yes you are normal. I am at 217 mb.

My apologies for not searching. I probably could have found an answer even faster than the timely responses you guys gave me. Thanks again though. :-D

Yeah, that was the "etc" I typed...too lazy to list them all. :laugh2:

People keep harping to use the search feature, but I find that it is not that good. You really have to pinpoint your entry to have any shot at getting what you are looking for. Just my 2 cents. Maybe I don't know how to use it, but I find it cumbersome.

That's why I picked up where you left off. Saved us both some typing.:tounge:

This is the second time I have seen reference to the search feature not being that great, and I wanted to take a moment and agree. I think it's perfectly okay for people to ask questions, that's what this site is for. It bothers me to see people get nasty and scold someone for not searching first. Repetitive Questions are just that much easier to answer ;-)
