View Full Version : 2 sizes of my contacts' photos when I receive a call

when some people call, their photo takes up the entire screen, when others call, I get a smaller version of their picture in the top, right hand corner.

How do I make it so that all incoming callers have full-screen pics when they call me?

Thanks!

I believe you get the smaller pick when you assign a contact photo through Outlook and you get the bigger one when you assign with through the iPhone itself.

I wondered this too. All mine are full screen, but I see on the iPhone commercial they are at the top with a small photo. Weird.

hmmmm...well I don't use Outlook. All the photos I have assigned to my contacts are from the Address Book application on my MacBook. None of the photos came from the iPhone.

Any other ideas on how to get all contacts to display full-sized pics when they call?

^^^ Delete them and reassign a photo from your camera roll.

I can't decide which I like better ... Full screen or thumbnail, would probably be nice if they gave us a option wouldn't it? ... Thus far I only have one picture that I took with my iPhone and it's my daughter, so I am happy to have her take up the whole screen.

This entire issue was discussed this weekend in another thread. Reasons why, solutions to stop this, start this and so forth. Using the search button brings about a wealth of information. Try it sometime. Mark

I recognize that this was already discussed this weekend but when I searched for the thread I couldn't find it. Sorry for the redundancy of this issue, but would you mind sending me a link to the thread, if you know where it is?

I'm not at my computer and only have my iPhone with me. Oh how I wish it had cut & Paste. Anyway I may still be able to help. It basically goes like this. If you sync a contact from ANY mail service (Mac or Windows) you will get the small icon, if you add a photo to contacts already on the iPhone the photo will be large, if you later decide to delete that photo off the iPhone it will stay with the contact but turn into a thumbnail. To sum up photo's added directly from iPhone to contacts are large (provided you keep the photo on the iPhone). Photo's sync'd to iPhone from other methods will be thumbnail. The exception being if you delete a photo off the iPhone that you applied to a contact (that photo will then become a thumbnail...Mark

Swagger, a little harsh? The search function on here is not the best. I just did a few searches and found nothing. It does bring a wealth of information but is a little difficult sometimes.

I am going to keep looking "Daniel Son"...everytime I hear "Daniel," I think karate kid, and Mr. Miagi saying it.

Thank you both, Mark and Matt. Funny thing is that the one picture that takes up the full screen was sync'd from Address Book just like the others and it is not stored anywhere on my iPhone. hmmmmm.

I do appreciate everyone's help VERY much--THANK YOU!!

I apologize sir I was not trying to be harsh. I just wanted to let you know that sometimes you get a lot more info on a subject by searching than in a thread. PM me if you don't find the thread and I will give you the link when I return home. Mark

I never had any luck syncing through my computers address book to get the small photos unless I shrunk down the size of the photo first.

not true. I have several (almost all) contacts with pictures I took with my phone then deleted from the camera roll and they are all large I have never had the tiny pictures

I don't have your iPhone so I do not know how it works. Mine works just like I posted. Otherwise I would not have posted. Mark

I have the 3g never jailbroken updated with the latest software. It hasn't done what you described on previous versions of software either.

Some can sync with Outlook some can't. Some can sync with address book some can't. Some get large photo's some get small photo's. It seems that every iPhone is doing something different. All you can do is post what yours is doing. I could say since mine is not doing what you say yours is doing your statements are not true. I will not though because I don't know what yours does or doesn't do.

There are many other variables to consider also. Is the computer being sync'd to a Mac or Windows. What compression format is being used to save photo's. How many MB's or KB's is the photo? I could go on and on but I'm sure you get the picture. So please before telling someone else they are wrong . Just post what your phone is doing. Mark

I defintely love the bigger option! I assign all my contact photo's directly from Photo's camera roll! Bigger is Better Anyway.

Nothing wrong with the small ones IMO. Gives me more room to see the wallpaper I selected "Which are my Kiddies."

I got a different one for ya. First off, I assign all my pics to contacts from my phone with pics I take on my phone and I am able to sync with outlook 2003.

Ok....

So I get the full screen pic for a call if the pic is still on my phone, but if I've deleted the pic, I get an almost full size pic. I get a 1/4 inch black line on the top and bottom of those pics... So its like outlook squared off the picture, but still kept it large enough for the phone to use as that callers temp wall paper on my phone.
