Hi,
I am well aware of no MMS in the iphone. My question is does anyone really know WHY ?
I searched and didn't find so forgive me if this is a repost here.
I have two theories.
1. Steve Jobs doesn't want to give Bill Gates one red cent in license fees even if it means crippling his product.
or
2. Bill Gates isn't about to grant that license to Steve Jobs because this will allow the new (don't get excited, purely hypothetical) Microsoft Phone which WILL have the MMS technology and trump iPhone. Withholding it also cripples the iPhone to an extent that may make people NOT purchase it and go with a MS smart phone instead.
Other ideas?
Anyone have any hard facts about this?
Not that knowing the WHY of no MMS will change anything, it would be nice to know though and through understanding will come acceptance and peace?.......or increased frustration and anger?

Interesting. What do you mean by Steve Jobs does not want to give Bill Gates one cent in license fees? I don't get it.

I'm not quite sure I understand what MMS has to do with Microsoft or Bill Gates.

OK, sounds like we are all confused a little bit! K, maybe a lot!
I am fairly certain that the OP must have googled MMS and the first thing that comes up is Microsoft Media Services, which is NOT what MMS stands for in the Cellular world. It stands for Multimedia Messaging Service.
for further clarification, here is a link to Wikipedia:

I was suprized to find out that MMS has only been around since 2002.

Ditto Mans_Ruin.
Does anyone have a logical explanation as to why Apple doesn't support MMS?
mainly it's because Steve Jobs said so. He thinks the tech is antiquated and will be replaced by email. That would be fine if EVERYONE that owned a cell phone had email like we do on the iphone. But in actuallity, we are in the minority, and because we complain about it, other manufacturers are taking advantage of the situation and making sure it's included. Obviously, if it was so antiquated, why is everyone else still putting it on new phones?? However, it's a losing argument, since Apple seems to barely listen to it's customer base or think high enough of their competition to do anything about it.

Thank you Hawk, as hard as it is to accept I believe your right

Hmmm, I think it's just plain wrong to leave out MMS. Steve is so wrong on this!
Unforunately, the debate about features left off the iPhone has raged since it's debut. Nothing we can do but let apple know how we feel and hope that actaully care enough to listen.

IMHO I think that Apple is slowing releasing all the necessities the phone has to offer. I think by doing this they are slowing realing(sp?) everyone in as opposed to having just having it all right away. This way not only will you get new customers but have old customers get the new phone. Who really knows though...

The lack of MMS would even be a bit more tolerable if you didn't have to type in that long unneeded password and username (who's idea was that)??? How about AT&T just issuing "ONE" username and password to each user to view ALL of their picture mail. I never view any MMS sent to me. To much of a hassle. Mark

I wonder if Apples iPhone engineers ever check out sites like this? ... You would think that someone at Apple would at minimum acknowledge the issue.
