A week or so after firing up Mobile Me I found my email getting incredibly slow (Outlook, Vista on PC, syncing iPhone 3G ver 2.1, laptop and desktop). Checking the Outlook pst files I found the main pst file to be a humongous 7.5 gig and growing. I was running the sync on automatic.
This size of file (actually anything over a couple of gig is pushing it) makes Outlook very slow and also, since using itunes tends to cause Outlook not to close files properly, it checks for data consistency every time you open - at 7.5 gigs that takes forever.
A few panics and curses later I reclaimed my life.... basically I used the file data management option in Outlook to remove everything but one archive pst and the default pst (archive before remove). Then compact the file.... this takes forever - well from 8 gig it does. Patience and don't touch click or breath.
That boofed the file down to an acceptable 100 meg or so. Now I keep a very sharp check - I assume somewhere in the syncing a bit of "padding" goes on.
No doubt this stuff will iron out....
