Come on man, if you go through all the trouble to make a poll like this, you know you're gonna do it. There's no harm, lots of us do it. Just get on with it already!

Jailbraking really isn't that serious. Just do it.

As long as you restore it before taking it into Apple if you ever need to, you won't have any problems. They won't be able to tell.

Jailbreaking has never been easier or SAFER. It is now entirely a personal preference. Go to MMI and see what 3rd party apps are available, mostly for free, and decide.
For myself, I jailbroke for two reasons: see what everyone else was experiencing; unlock. Prior to the iPhone 3G coming out, any restore on a locked iPhone being used without a contract as an iPod would be bricked and stuck on the emergency call screen. Apple changed its policy. My V1 iPhone has been upgraded without problem to 2.1. It now serves me well as an iPod.
I haven't jailbroken my 3G simply because there has been nothing that excites me enough to do so. The "Pull My Finger" app would be a temptation if that were available somewhere...

I'm a heavy user of iPhone Remote and other bandwidth intensive apps. I am committed to sucking down as close to 5gb data every month in my singular attempt to make AT&T cough up better coverage.

I say go for it. I refused to Jailbreak at first and once I finally did the world of iPhone was truly revealed.

Heck, I held out for 5 months after buying the iPhone before I jailbroke it. And even then was only because I knew it would be four months before the appstore. I loved it so much, I waited 6 months until I upgraded to 2.1 and the appstore. Now, with JB and Appstore apps, I feel invincible. This is finally an iPhone with limitless possibilities.

Simply put, JBing greatly increases both the utility and fun of the iPhone. Sure, it might involve some 'extra' steps not typically associated with Apple products, but the little inconvenience JBing requires is nothing compared to what it opens up to the user. I waited about 2 months before I dove in (just to understand things) and have never regretted it. Go fer it.

Okay. You bought an iPhone. You obviously have great taste. This sets you apart from all the other dummies out there. You are in a whole new league. Much like if you were the owner of a Porsche. They are a whole society all to themselves. But I ask you. Would you buy a Porsche and then only go the speed limit for the rest of you life? HELL NO! You'd rev that baby up and see what she's made of. That is what Jailbreaking is all about. Releasing the iPhone's FULL potential. You would be a fool to deny yourself the satisfaction.

I had the same problem. I wasnt sure, scared of bricking my shiney new iphone! ;)
I finally jailbroke and ive never been happier. Even the simple things like changing the layout of the spingboard... To be able to get free games like monkey Ball etc is personal preference, i personally wouldnt get those free because i dont believe its fair on the developer.
Apple simply doesnt give enough choice to personalise the iphone, and i think this was the main reason i finally did.

So my sister and I both got iPhones when they were on the 1.1.2 firmware. I jailbroke mine a week after getting it, and strongly urged her to do the same, since it increases the fun factor of the iPhone by about 100%. Her fear was that it would void warranty and that third party apps are unstable.
In regards to the warranty, I believe someone already posted this but just make sure you restore your phone before bringing it in for any reason, otherwise Apple won't even bother trying to help you with your problem.
As for the third party apps, obviously you should do your research and check the forums and see what people are saying about the applications before downloading it. If for any reason you download an app that messes your phone up, you can easily restore and start from scratch. Does it get any better than that?
In regards to my sister and her iPhone, she never jailbroke her phone, and for some reason, some of her applications still crash anyway. Funny how the world works.
i waited a whole 2 hours after getting my phone to JB it, simply because i had to read up on how to do it and what programs to get. it is great and i cannot imagine having an iphone stock.

i jailbroke mine within weeks of the original realese of v1 when there wasnt even any real software to do it. now all you have to do is plug you phone in for about 5 mins and its jailbroken and you're good to go. as a few have said if you do need to go to apple restore it, but when you restore it SET UP AS NEW. wen 2.0 came i went stock untill yesterday but was some reminencse that i had jailbroke my phone before, but if you set up as new theres no way they can tell that you did anything

I was quite late to the iPhone party .Was earlier this year when I caved in and bought the V1 .I took it straight home and jailbroke it.
With the 3G , I was waiting eagerly for the JB to appear, as soon as it did, I jailbroke it.
