For those of you who have a 3G, please note: Apple has received reports of the metal prongs [on the USB power adapter included with the iPhone 3G] breaking off of the adapter and remaining lodged in power outlets, creating the risk of electric shock.

This should become a sticky!! Once again, rushing to get a product into the market place, has resulted in inferior goods being sent out.
I've already placed an order for my replacement.

Well, my buddy left his 3G charger here and I'm looking at it. I'd have to pretty much step on this thing to break those prongs... solid as a rock. I guess there were bad batches?

Yeah the one I have seems pretty solid too. Regardless, I'll be taking mine down to the Apple Store for exchange as soon as October 10th rolls around.

Yea my PC is down right now and if it was not for the iPhone 3G Car Charger (http://www.***********.com/p-345-iphone-3g-car-charger.aspx) I'd be screwed for recharges. The iPhone is a bit of a battery hog and I need to charge it at least once a day for a few hours.:laugh2:

I should have specified. I still use the original charger that came with the v1. Otherwise I just plug it into my laptop while I'm surfing around online.

Maybe this is really for the people who carry their charger around with them, especially since the prongs are exposed. That, and constantly plugging it in, and removing it may loosen them over time.
Mine is plugged in, and hasn't been removed more than 2-3 times since I got the phone, especially since I have a backup battery, and car charger. I dont think the prongs will fall out if left untouched like that, so I'm still using it every night until the replacement gets delivered.

So how do they plan on you charging your phone until you get the new charger? Stick the phone in a lemon or something?

You know the USB on a PC does not provide enough power to charge the 3G? You need to use a powered USB hub. And if the 3G goes into standby mode, it is no longer being charged (when connected to a PC via the USB).
So when you use the 3G when plugged in, it will start charging. When you stop using it and it goes into standby, it will stop charging. And when you use it again, it will start charging again. You get the story. This constant charging, stop charging over a short period cannot do the battery a lot of good!!
Apple have thought this one out well.

Nonsense. I charge my iPhone via the Apple dock on my Dell PC's USB port every day. At times it's at 20% when I plug it in and it's always at 100% at lunchtime.

Ravman...where did you learn this? I probably use my laptop computer usb port 90% of the time to charge my iPhone and the charge is full every time in a reatively short period. Most of the time it is on standby.

It was discussed on this forum before. Can't remember off hand now where it isnow. But you can search my posts and find it (there are a lot of them to search through). Someone noticed this (I have too). When you charge your 3G using the wall, the 3G charge will last a lot longer. When you charge via your USB, it cannot provide enough power to fully charge the 3G. Even though the 3G shows 100%, you will find that it runs down a lot quicker than a wall charge. When the phone goes into standby, it is not being fully charged properly. A USB can only provide so much power, and it's not enough for the 3G, that why it's advisable to use a powered USB hub.
Weird I know, but I've experienced this myself. I now use a wall charger at work also.
It could be another urban legend. But I started noticing this and I no longer charge via my PC anymore. Try it, you will notice the difference.

This is completely false for me. I've not experienced this at all. In fact, the charge lasts just as long from USB charging than A/C power.

I have the cable to charge it through my computer...which sucks if I'm out and my battery dies, so I have to make sure my battery is fully charged before I leave the house.

Interesting. Although I would not have expected this, most products have some form of recall at some point, whether it be a small cord or a larger issue.
While this isn't a huge problem success-wise, it's always good to know that a safety issue has been resolved.

Wow. The pot called the kettle what??
For what it's worth, Ravman, I agree with the others. I've never heard of anyone having problems with their iPhones charging off USB once the phone is locked. I agree that USB is low power unless you're using a powered hub, so it is slow to charge. But my phone charges fine hub or not with when it's locked.
Maybe there's something wrong with your system?

3G iphone has the USB power adapter which can be used in USB of PC but if it's get broken then it will be of no use and at that time one should go for replacement.

Went to the Apple Store to exchange it tonight. Easy. Not much of a line. Of course they took the old one and all they needed was my iPhone serial number. If you don't know where it is in your iPhone it's: Settings ---> General ---> About.
The green circle sticker on the face of the adapter means it's the new one.
No green sticker here and as jsn stated apple made the whole process extremely easy
