weird dimming issue

so I jailbrokw me phone over the weekend and today I noticed when I unlock it the screen is dimmer than normal then In about 2 seconds it brightens to what it should be. Any ideas why this might be happening? Sort of annoying!

Sounds like you have auto-bright on in settings.

Now I wonder, which is the better option in terms of conserving battery power?

There's a bit of a debate about this currently. I have no idea. I leave mine off simply because it annoys me, and I'm quite pleased with my battery life.

I don't think i've really noticed a big difference having it on or off. Like Dave, mine is off too because it does get annoying real quick.
