question... If I buy a blackberry curve with a data plan and then go online and remove the data plan will the Texting feature still work? I need a Texting phone for my daughter, but not Internet access but there really are no good phones without buying a smart phone. I thought I saw a discussion on here a while back but couldn't find it. Any recommendations would be cool.

I am not quite familiar with the BB plans but is the plan a separate charge from the texting? If so then I imagine you would be able to have only texting but I think the only way to be sure would be to try calling AT&T and doing it over the phone.

Any of the smart phones can be purchased without a data plan. AT&T does require you to get them in order to be eligible for the mail in rebates and you do have to keep it fora certain time. If you go somewhere like Best Buy, they don't do mail in rebates so you can just go into the store and grab it with a two year with no data plan.

Yea, my wife had a BB Pearl for a bit with no data plan, but (lots of) texts.

Text will be fine but no MMS even with unlimited plan, a BB needs a data plan to have MMS.
