Do you mean covering all the black areas, (like around the earpiece and home button) with white?
Because I think covering the screen itself with white would make the screen un-usable...

Yeah only on the black so its all white but not the screen like you said that would be un usable.

I've never seen them make it, but with a white iPhone, that would be pretty sweet. You could put cut vinyl on there. Perhaps a full screen protector, then white cut vinyl on top of that.
i have a white iPhone but I have a black Case-Mate, so it looks black. If I didn't have a case, I'd definitly try this to make it all white. That would be cool!

True-Dat!
Do you have a plotter?
I have a plotter and cut vinyl graphics and decals for clients. (sign business)
I might make one for my phone...
Cool, you're in Clear Lake, I'm in NW Houston.
The only problem I see with vinyl is proper alignment. Unless it was applied to the static-cling screen-protector before-hand and applied as one unit...hmm....

No I have none of that you sound like the man for the job. Haha. I would prob put aclear screen protector on first then make it in 3 parts top bottom and then the sides. But idk you have done the sticker/ graphics alot more than I have done it me being 0 times. If you figure it out let me know I would love get one from you. I just wonder about the glue on the sticker when you try to take it off.

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend applying vinyl directly to the glass, it can be difficult to remove, and when it does come off, it leaves glue behind that has to be removed with solvents or powerful citrus-based adhesive removers.
I would most likely scan the front of the phone, or perhaps the screen protector, then cut and apply to the screen protector and then apply the screen protector to the phone so that the vinyl isn't directly applied to the glass. I could try and whip something out tomorrow...

This is what I have so far. It would be much better to scan the clear screen cover and apply it to that. I haven't applied it to my phone because I don't want to apply it directly to the glass. I don't have any screen protectors either. Maybe I'll order a 3-pack or something. Looks promising so far...

S-Man
09-09-2008, 06:43 PM
I forgot to check before I left the shop, (I'm at home now) but under my incandescent light here at home it looks about spot on. As close as it is, it would be fine given the chrome bezel as the divider and the fact that its two different sides. i.e. you don't see both sides at the same time.
Where can I get some full-screen-covers for cheap? (I prefer the non-adhesive cling-type sheets)

iconone-there are proximity and light sensors are the top near where you out your ear. Look in the light and you will see red circle looking things up there. I tried to google you a pic, but I cannot find one easily.

Okay, so I finally got my internet back up after that stupid Ike threw his pimp hand a little too hard and knocked out my cable...I also just today got my 4 iPhone Screen protectors. I got 2 anti-glare and 2 crystal. I should be able to go to the shop this after noon (it's after 2 a.m.) and cut some white covers and slap it on my phone and have pics up by tonight. Stay tuned! It's getting close!
P.S. I'm going to try out the anti-glare cover on mine. So I'll have 1 clear and 1 anti-glare available. iconone has first dibs since it was his prodding that got this started. Ctgry5 has second dibs.
What finish do you want iconone? Crystal or Anti-Glare?

just use a hole puncher, or make a cardboard template and use an exacto knife to make a hole for the sensors. Call it the "prototype", then we can get a basic idea of how it looks and you can make more proffesional ones later:laugh2:

Wouldn't it be better to do an oval coutout on the top... Just my opinion.. I'm not an expert.. maybe you had to cut out that way but it looks kind of awkward.. but maybe in a full pic it might look better... I apologize if I sound like a critic but our iphones have to look the best right....

Tru-Dat,
I cut it like that for the sensors on either side of the earpiece, and that's the way my case mate cover is cut. I thought it looked the most reasonable. I can do one with a large oval, but it might look weird-er.
Looking at the face, There are two round sensors on the left side of the earpiece. I'm not sure if there's one on the right side, I couldn't see one, but I figure the case mate had to be cut like that for a reason, perhaps it was to keep the look symmetrical.
S-Man
09-19-2008, 04:19 PM
Here is a rough example of what an oval would look like. The red circles are the approximate location of the sensors.
edit: I found a third sensor far left of the earpiece. It seems I have covered it after all, as when I go outside, the screen does not auto-brighten...What a conundrum...

That might work. I'm home now so it'll have to wait until monday.
I need to get exact measurements on the sensors so that I can leave space accordingly. Why did they have to put the daylight sensor so far on the left!?
I thought it was magic at first! They should have left it magic!
Edit again: I took off the anti-glare screen cover. It made the graphics look like trash. White screens were all rainbow and other stuff lost sharpness. So what I did was just stick the vinyl directly onto the glass. I know, I know I didn't recommend this at first, but if I use high-performance vinyl it will not leave a residue. It looks kick-A applied directly to the glass. I'll post some pics tonight.

Dude you should totally sell these. I was so disappointed when I went into the apple store on iday and realized that the entire phone wasnt white (just the back). That is the "only" reason I settled for the black. I would so go and buy a white one and give the black to the ole lady if you are willing to sell me one of these.

Yeah, I don't mind making them for people.
I don't know about a star on the home button, or even a square. I could possibly cut a small square on the home button so that it would be a small black square, but I got to thinking, "Why?" We know what and where the home button is, so why do we need a label or a marking on it?

I can do either one. What I have on my phone at the moment is just vinyl applied directly to the glass.
I feel the iPhone needs no screen protector, as the glass is very resilient and scratch-proof.
If a screen protector is desired, i can apply vinyl to one and send it to you. That way you install the screen protector with white trim.

Wow this is exactly what ive been looking for! Do you still have these for sale? cant find one anywhere! is it not possible to do the whole thing white without those holes for the sensors? do the sensors not work with the vinyl covering it? is it possible to make the vinyl material near the sensors less thicker using some sort of chemical so that light can pass through it so that the sensors can work? if not would it be possible for you to make me a screen protector as shown in the pic below! ive just amended your picture to make it easier :laugh2:

Hey guys, wow this is an old thread!
Yeah, I made them on the vinyl plotter at the shop.
I had mine on the glass for a long time, but it eventually wore out so I took it off.
And yeah the holes are necessary for the light sensors, as was mentioned. You could use the one already applied to the screen protector too.
Whichever you want. I personally liked it on the glass because it felt and looked better IMO. I don't like screen protectors. The only problem of having it on the glass is that you'd have to apply it yourself and it's probable that you'll mess it up the first time or two. You have to be very careful applying it. You can PM me if you want one.
This is the technique I use though: LINK (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-VGSEcHHyo)
Thats me applying the palmguard to my MBP.

if you can do it with the holes as shown in the pictures below, then i'll definately buy one!

knowing me i'll definately mess it up if i apply it directly to the glass, so i want it applied directly to the screen protector! could you also apply the home button sticker to the screen protector film aswell? if i get it on the screen protector from you, do you apply the vinyl directly to the sticky underside of the screen protector or just on top of the surface of the screen protector?

Right now the one I have made are the three dots cut out for the three sensors. I also have some 'crystal' screen protectors. You can PM me if you want.

It's a vinyl sticker/decal like what is used on vehicle graphics and lettering.
That is applied to the clear static-cling screen-protector.
I personally like not having a screen protector and applying the vinyl to the glass, but it might be easier for you to apply just the screen protector with the vinyl already on it.

As far as I know that is known as a screen protector. A transparent sheet made of thin plastic. It is really helpful for any sensitive screen of any device.
