The 200 texting plan has an overage fee of only $0.10 per additional message, and that does in fact include incoming and outgoing messages.

that sucks that it's incoming. what if someone hates you and gets ahold of your phone number and keeps texting you.

You can go to http://mymessages.wireless.att.com to set up your txt messaging preferences and block anyone that is trying to spam you.

I went over my text plan of 1000 a few month ago, so BEFORE my month was up I called AT&T and they said I could upgrade to unlimited for $5 more and not pay any overages for that month..

I would do that

I tried 200...blew it.

Tried 1500, was on pace to blow it, figured for 5 bucks more i wouldn't have to worry about going over. Peace of mind costs money ppl.

No, unfortunately texting is a separate add-on.

If you are referring to the V1 phone, then there are 200 txt included with the data plan for the $20/mo.
The data plan for the 3G doesn't include txt.

Despite the flaws of the 2.0 software in regards to the SMS application, I am sending many more texts with the 3G than the v1 EDGE iPhone. I'm not quite sure why.

yes, incoming AND outgoing

Seriously when receiving an sms that gets taken off your monthly allowance?

If thats the case thats crazy as in the UK the figure we get quoted is the amount of text messages we can send in a month.

In the U.S. it is the total number of messages, meaning sent and received. It is this way on most (if not all wireless carriers) in the U.S. and has been this way for quite some time. It does seem a bit unfair as you cannot determine whether a person sends you a message or not, but must pay for it anyway.

Yea it does seem unfair as you cannot control your bill, but sms message aren't that expensive but i suppose if you receive enought then it all adds up.

Nope....that has to be added on, which is dumb, IMO.
