The iPhone will not read numbers from a SIM card. The SIM card is for your account info only; contacts & numbers go into flash memory.

You will need to get your contacts onto your computer and then use iTunes to move them to the iPhone during a sync. Or, you can have it done by someone with a SIM card reader like your sister did.

Keep everything backed up (sync often); if the flash memory in the phone gets corrupted you can lose everything but a backup will save you lots of aggravation (and typing).

Actually the phone can import sim contacts so that you dont have to manually retype all your contacts.

I upgraded from a 3G Razor, and did just that. I copied all contacts to the Razr SIM, then swapped it with the Iphone's SIM. Then in "Settings"; you go to "mail/contacts/calendars", and under the the contacts section, you can hit "import SIM contacts", and then that was it. I swapped the SIM's back, and was good to go.

I had to do some editing. All the numbers came over as Mobile numbers on the Iphone instead of work, home, etc, but fixing that was way easier than retyping them all.

k i got another question, k so i was surfing the net and found a bunch of appstore apps.. so i followed the instructions, but when i go to use the app i get "THE APPLICATION "labyrinth" CANNOT BE OPENED".. what am i doing wrong??

my instructions:

IPhone/Ipod TOuch APPS!!!!

*This is a geniric Readme included in all packs

Good job on finding this special pack of super specials for your iphone/Ipod touch.

Req: Itunes 7.7
Firmware 2.0
Jailbroken ipod/iphone (see bottom for details)
An SSH program such as CuteFTP or putty (google them)
SSH downloaded through Cydia

Steps: 1) SSH into your device and navigate to /System/Library/PrivateFrameWorks/MobileInstallation.framework
2) Find the file MobileFramework and rename it to MobileFramework.bak
3) Copy over the MobileFramework from this folder into the same folder on your device
4) change the permissions on the new file to 775 NOT 755 755 = BAD
5) REBOOT your device
PHEW HARD PART IS OVER!
6) double click on the file that contains the app you want and itunes should pop open
7) plug in your device and BAM the app should start loading on
8) Enjoy your new app!!

JAILBREAK:

In order to jailbreak your device you need a copy of winpwn or pwnage (google) and a copy of the 2.0 Firmware.
Follow the instructions given to you and in no time you'll have your own jailbroken 2.0 iphone/ipod touch!!

The Apple Store "geniuses" told me they could not do this. My V.1 crashed spectacularly, losing everything (it was new and I had not done a synch/back-up yet) but I still had the SIM card from my previous phone but they said it would not help.

They should die!
