It keeps going to edge! It WAS working just fine, hooking in to my network when I came home. Now it just says "choose a network" but never finds my wi fy. My network is working perfectly, My laptop that I am writing this on is hooked just fine. Iphone one foot away will not connect??? (Yes I tried rebooting the phone and even going right next to the router) Then I tried my friends wireless network and the Dam phone wont see that either??? Running version 2.0.2
Added:Funny, it finds it occasionally, I click on join, get the check mark and then it dissapears again??? Yes I have restored it with Itunes and done numerous resets w/ the home and pwr button. I guess I am going to have to take it to the genius bar next week

when u restored did u restore from a back-up ?if so, restore as a new phone, restoring from a back-up will almoust always cause you problems, but first try to reset your network settings

yes, if you have them from cydia or appstore you should be able to reinstall everything, and in the future if you are goin to restore do a full restore not from a back-up

This may or may not help you but I have the same problem occasionally.
The fix for me is to reboot my router, a Netgear WGT624 v2.

I'm having the exact same problem. Resetting router does not work. Iphone does not recognize any wifi. It sometimes picks up and then drops back to Edge.
It used to work fine up until 30 days ago.

Hello. I am having the same problem that you all have described above. Has anyone found a solution (notice that thread stops in Aug 08)? Txs.

This advice is based on the assumption that your iphone does not recognize ANY networks (not just your home network).
first thing i would do would be to reset the network settings (settings->general->reset->reset network settings).
If that doesn't work, really all there is left is a full restore, and then a genius bar visit for replacement.

hey there, i have already reset the network setting a couple of time with no luck and done a full restore...it seems to be quite a common problem but no one seems to be able to find a solution

I'll bet you $500 you have the same overheating issue I've had. I decided to take mine apart for the source of the problem. Heres how you can test.
Pust your iphone in a plastic bag (leave it on) in the freezer for about 20 minutes on ice (he back especially), pull it out switch wifi on and off and watch as it stays connected for a few while it warms up. If your lucky you'll have some days where it gets bumped just right to where it works completely fine.
I found out it had to do with the wifi chip and what I believe was a time i dropped it about one foot off the ground.
You seriously really need to take it in to the apple store and have it swapped out. Sorry to give you the bad news. It took me forever to finally figure it out, I disassembled the phone to see the pins for myself, and have looked at the exact same problem on several other 3G models.
There's whole threads on apple about the overheating wifi chip, it's just defective period.

UPDATE! Got new phone today (Other issue waranty replacement) NEW phone does not "SEE" ANY wifi networks! It just endlessly "looks" for wifi but never Sees any. Even though there are five that always show up at this location. Have done a restore and a reset twice and no results???

at this point, i think we'll need to know more about your network setup. how far away is your router? what kind of router is it? Is it an 802.11n network? is it encrypted?
one thing you can try is manually entering a network name and password by tapping "Other..." under "Choose a Network...".

OK! Inkhead is RIGHT! After trying EVERYTHING for an hour, I put my phone in the freezer for fifteen min. and when I took it out it IMMEDIATELY found the wireless network!! ????? I am SO going to raise HELL with apple tomorow. ((Altho mine is a first gen phone not 3G)

I told you. Pretty crazy right. I'm on my 5th 3G phone since 2.2.1 Apple is well aware of the problem and is trying to keep it hush hush. Quite a few of my friends work on campus, and confirm that it's' a known R&D problem. Just gotta get one that's off the line newer... Some apple stores have stock for a loong time so you could get a bad one several times.

Well they tried the wifi IN the apple store and it would not "see" it either so they gave me another new phone and it seems to be better. I told the genius about the freezer trick and she was amazed! (not a new thing to me since tech's hve been using hot and cold temp's to test for cold solder joints and other problems for years)...She did not know of it being a wide spread problem................
