View Full Version : Self Deleting Email Message ... ?

This morning I was typing in an email on my iPhone 3G (2.0.2 non JB'd). I stopped for a few seconds to check something on my PC. When I picked up my iPhone to continue typing/finish the email ... suddenly the entire email was deleted ... character by character ... just as if I was depressing the BACK-X (delete character) "key" ... but I wasn't. In fact I was simply holding the iPhone in the palm of my hand. :confused:

Has anyone else ever experienced this behavior ... or have an explanation as to why it happened?

What firmware do you have installed on your phone. There were issues with that happening pre- 2.0.2

I am running 2.0.2 (not jailbroken), as I indicated in the original post ...

I'm still thinking back to just how freaky that was seeing 4 lines of text disappear before my eyes ... character by character ... and me doing nothing to cause it to happen.

sometimes this phone will delete most if not everything u type when u hit backspace. It's a bug that still hasn't been fixed. Does it to me quit a few times when I text and make a mistake. I hit the back button and it keeps deleting everything. I simple fix to this is just tap the space bar and it'll stop.

But that was not the case here ... I didn't hit the x-backspace key. If I remember correctly I just tried to continue typing the message ... as in I think I hit SPACE-SPACE after the period, which is where I left the email message. I also think I tried hitting the SPACE key, but if in fact I did do that it did not help ... the entire 4 lines of text already entered in the email were deleted.

I found some additional reports of this in Apple Support discussions ... not posted under email or SMS, but rather under iPhone 3G ... and subjects like "auto deleting text".

In fact the threads over there show this not to be specific to iPhone 3G, but rather to all levels of software/firmware 2.0.n

This has still only happened to me the one time, although I rarely email or text from my iPhone. For others, they claim it happens several times a day.
