I would like to port my old T-Mobile number to ATT(Iam planning to buy the new 3G iphone!). But before that I want to try the service at my home and office.
Iam planning to get a new number for the iphone until I test it out.
What is the time limit whith in which I have to port the number to ATT from T-mobile?

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe it is one year. I think by law they actually have to reserve your old number for you for one year and then they can recirculate it.

Also, you can port your number to AT&T and if you're not happy with the phone and/or service you can port your number right back to t-mobile.

I would do it this way and then you have 30days.

I just switched from tmobile to at&t and did port my number as well. at&t gives you 30 days to suspend the service and tmobile gives you 90 days to get your old number back.

Sorry that message was a little unclear. Tmobile gives you 90 days to return to their service at which time they will refund your money that you were charge to suspend their service if your contract was not up and will give you the same number back.

That is false.
I work for a phone major phone company and I'll give you an example of how things work.

The ORIGINAL owner of a number, not who the number is currently with, dictates how long before a disconnected number of theirs will be returned. (Because they own it)
Here are a few intervals: Qwest -30days, Vonage - 14days, Mcleod is 1 day, and Comcast 30 days...etc. If the number is not activated by the same carrier or ported out (if Rate Centers allow porting), the number will be returned to the original owner after a specific window.

For this example you have service with Tmobile, but the number is owned by Qwest.

If you cancel Tmobile service the number will flow back to Qwest if it isn't reactivated in within the time frame that Qwest allows or if the number isn't ported to another company. If the number flowed back to Qwest and the customer wants that number again, he/she would have to call Qwest, activate the number with Qwest, (if not already re-issued), and then re-port the number to Tmobile.
