hey guys I just got off the phone with a rep at at&t and he told me that at&t is planning to roll out complete 3g coverage throughout the U.S. by the beginning of 2009. I was wondering if anyone else has heard anything about this or if the guy was just jerking me around. as of right now there is no 3g coverage in my area so it would be great if there is any truth to this.

Their website says there is coverage (very little, but still there) in my area. I have tried to get on the 3G network in those areas, but it hasnt worked yet.
I don't trust AT&T right now.

Let me see here...that gives them four months to rollout about 3/4 of the remaining non-3G country? I find it hard to believe.

I wouldnt trust the coverage map too much. They recently rolled out 3g in my home town of Salinas, CA and they have yet to update the map to reflect it. Its hard to believe but you never know.

considering there are places in the united states where there is NO cell phone coverage whatsoever I highly doubt the entire US will be 3g by 2009

I am in Houston and have GREAT 3G service or suspose to have it, but hardly ever get it, I think their maps are worthless, when I call AT&T about it they agrue with me in the fact they say I do have it, yet I don't. Huh, guess thats the crappy cuostmer service I get.

There should be some coverage enhancements, but unless you are willing to move or change job locations, you will be pretty much stuck with the adequacy of existing coverage. A potential ray of hope will be implementation of LTE. Because VZW will also be rolling out LTE on the 700 MhZ spectrum, direct competition between similar technology providers should ensure a higher standard of coverage.

No way they will have a complete blanket on the US in the next four months. No way.

90% of Alaska has no cell service period...that's an area twice the size of Texas right there...

Isn't that where Sarah Palin can see Russia?

I'm pretty satisfied by the 3G coverage in Florida. However in parts of Florida to the North the coverage of 3G is a bit spotty though the EDGE service is pretty solid and that's acceptable for now.

60 miles from the nation's capital, and AT&T's coverage is no better than the heart of the Nevada Test Site.

3G is really good where I live on the East coast of Florida. I think it is strange that we have such good 3G coverage here where big cities do not.
