So I land in Phoenix Arizona on busiess and I am thrilled to see 5 bar 3 g service. All is good, the phone is making great clear calls, the apps are flying. Iphone 3g as it should be? Not so fast. I notice after a couple of hours that I am getting no emails. Very strange for my typical business day. My business email is on exchange push, my personal email is on fetch every hour. I manually go into the phone to try to "push" emails. I notice that the little search circle is not activated. I re-boot the phone, the signal comes up great no mail. I shut 3g off and all my mail comes flying in. Anybody else seeing anything like this? Any ideas why it would happen? Any idea why I sold my Flawless version 1?

Ah...let's see...hmm...to offset the cost of the iPhone 3G? ;)
Seriously, this happened to me twice--once in Florida after I landed, then in Seattle, after I landed again. Rebooting the device brought everything back to normal.
However, when I returned to California, I didn't have to reboot. Go figure.

Maybe the interstate friendly version will be in update 2.1 This phone is like having another wife. You never know what you are going to get day by day. But I do love it and the wife.

I was getting alot of "Could not activate cellular data network" yesterday.
No emails, also visual voicemail would give me an option to dial voicemail (no visual available)
This was intermittent and noticed it when I turn on the phone (out of sleep)

I have the same issue once or twice a week. I live in a 5bar 3G area. Lately my dropped calls are increasing. I had 3 dropped calls today. I ended up turning of 3G my dropped calls go so bad today.
Love the phone, I agree it is like having a temperamental wife. One day I want to turn it back in, the next I cant part without it.

Yes this happens to me all the time, just thought it was user error. I'm going to Apple in the morning if I find anything out I'll let you know.

I have the same problem as well, happens a couple times a week for me.
Same problem here too. Happens both when flying and even when driving in and out of signal around here...

Yup same here...and its annoying..you know the worse part? my wife's Gen 1 iphone same deal on EDGE..all of a sudden no mail no data. I've even had it happen when switching between wifi and edge and or 3g. I'll be on wifi...no mail, turn off 3g and reboot, and im good again.

I think the iphone has a hard time reconnecting to networks. I know that when I switch between Edge and 3G it goes to "no service" for a few minutes until it can reconnect. Even though, I know this should be seamless. If there is no 3G it should (theoretically) drop back to Edge no problems and vice versa, but it doesn't seem to do this at all.
This could be problematic if you leave an area when it is in the middle of doing something on the internet.
Think about your personal computer. You're connected online and for some reason your connection burps. All of your internet applications get stuck where they were. Even if the connection comes back rather quickly you still have to refresh them. I think it's a similar situation with the iphone. It's looking for mail and you turn it off or it loses connections. When it regains connection, I think it gets confused and in order to fix that confusion, you have to restart the phone.
This is just my theory and maybe I didn't explain it very well.

same thing. After trips to west coast. After landing in Vegas twice in two weeks and then back in Baltimore. I needed to reset.

Same thing, even when automatically switching from 3G to my campus's PEAP Wifi. I had no email this morning by 10am, and I knew something was wrong. After a reboot, I had 9 messages waiting in my two inboxes.
Stupid, annoying, and could prove to be a huge problem one day when I may need a message as soon as possible.
Apple, my V1 iPhone was flawless. Now, my iPhone 3G is riddled with bugs, instabilities, and connection problems. Fix this or lose me as a future customer.
