I'm new to owning an Iphone and using Itunes. I seem to navigate quite well in Itunes but there are quite a few things I don't understand. Some of my questions may sound dumb to advanced users but try to be kind...LOL

Can I only play movies downloaded from Itunes to my phone or can I rip and download my favorite movies and watch them? If I can rip them can I do this in Itunes or do I have to have a 3rd party app?

You can play any movies you like (legally of course). As long as they have been converted to the iPhone format.

A lot of people out there use a tool called Handbrake. I've not used it myself, but people say it does the job.

Thanks for the reply!

We own quite an extensive library of movies we purchased from Hollywood Video and Costco over the years. I would like to carry around 2-3 of my favorite movies in my phone with me.

So Itunes does not do it huh?

Are you running a Mac or a PC? If you're on a Mac, then Handbrake is going to be your best bet. It's a free, third-party program that works by simply inserting your DVD into your player, choosing the output settings, and ripping the DVD to mp4 format. If you're on a PC then Videora is probably the easiest software to use. It is also free and rather easy to use.

iTunes does not do the ripping and encoding from DVD to mp4 for you, unfortunately.

Unfortunately, no. :frown: It does require a 3rd Party App, and there are alot of apps for mac & pc that rip/convert ect, a search to google will get you a list of a bunch, i just did a search for : rip dvd to iphone and got alot of results.

I dont have a program to recommend since i stopped buying dvds awhile ago, i only buy Blu-Rays now, and some of those come with a Digital Copy...DVDs have that too now, its a second disk that lets you download a copy of the same movie from iTunes or the microsoft marketplace thing... The second disk for the digital copy isnt needed really since they give you a code to enter, the code only works once though...
