It's only on pro since I'm getting used to the game, but here's a nice little play I pulled off.

4th and 20, on my 0 yard line.

Sick play Ram. I have YET to pick up Madden 09'. I must get it soon, considering NCAA and NFL are both starting oh so soon.

Madden 09 is alright. I have never fully been able to stay entertained with a Madden game. I am trying, however.

I am more of an NCAA franchise fan. It changes much more frequently, and Season Long recruiting keeps you on your toes. The playbooks between the 2 games are almost identical, really. This year, I am committed to enforcing a pocket pressence with my QBs. Ever since the Vince Young days, I got too used to rolling out and either dumping off to a reciever, or running for 30 yards. Our current QB at Texas doesn't have nearly the speed, agility, or Break Tackle ability of VY, hence why my passing game was so horrible the past 2 years (IMO). SO far, this year I am averaging around 75% completion rate with my QBs (I used to be at or under 50%....then again, I was also running the ball 75-80% of the time, too).

I picked up Madden last week. I have been playing the Madden Challenges like crazy, getting used to the different dynamics of each team. The Eagles are my team, and I look to start a franchise with them, and maybe 3 other teams (Oakland, Buffalo and Titans....all teams that I can build upon and improve....that's the point of these games to me, I do not like starting with a team that is already at its peak....no fun in winning all the time). I play on All-Star or All-Pro.

No, a Hail Mary would involve mainly straight routes by 3 or 4 WRs. That was a play action out of a 2-back set. T.O. was running a Slant route from the left side. Defense looks like it was in a zone defense. In Pro level difficulty, you can kill a Zone Defense with the deep ball if you WR has wheels....plus, rolling out of the pocket like that usually can give you a better angle, or causes on of the safties to lock up a bit, letting the WR have a better route to run for a catch.

T.O. Was on a streak, but I threw to the right to have him go get it. I was going to go to Crayton, but saw T.O. semi open.

Still practicing in Franchise before I hit all madden.

:) Thanks....I am no genius, and probably wouldn't be fit for coaching (i wish I was), but I would like to think I know a fair amount about strategy and execution of the sport.

I went to a prominent University in the state of Texas.....for the most part, you are expected to know football. Football is considered much more than just a game there. I never really had a passion for the sport until I went to U.T. Since my first fall on campus, the sport is somewhat of an obsession (more so for college, but moving to Philadelphia has me actually loving the NFl now too). it comes from MANY years of watching, and many years of playing football video games, i guess.

What is it you know that I don't, just curious?

the 'Phins will be MUCh better this year. Even though I am biased by association, I firmly believe the Ricky Williams will carry that team (literally) to some W's this year. The guy has always been a stud. As long as he stays healthy, count on the Phins having a deadly running game, which will open up the passing options for Chad. Chad Pennington is also the best QB your team has had in many years (that says alot of why the Phins keep losing every year). Granted, the Phins will not be at the top of their division, but I guarentee they will improve after last years situation. Adding Parcells to the mix is going to help that team greatly in the future.

Man, you sprinkle a little bit of football knowledge and iphoners go nuts. :)

Anyway - Tex, I'm glad someone here knows some football. I know Jason (aggie) is into football, and that's about it. I think JJ likes the Niners, but doesn't seem hardcore (no offense, JJ).

When we moved to Cali, I wouldn't even look at the apartment if they didn't have one available that faced southeast so I could get DTV and the Sunday ticket. I HAVE to watch my Bucs. The Bucs are my favorite team by far, and then the Cowboys.

I can't wait for football to officially start. I went to the Charger/Seahawk game on Monday and that really whet my appetite. :)

As for Madden - are you gamer? If so, do you have a 360 or PS3? If you have a 360, we should play sometime. I'm still learning this game, but it should be fun.

I have a 360. B McCracken is my handle. I just started my franchise tonight on Madden (I was playing mainly the challenges the first week of owning it, which was causing me to rack up Losses in my stats and not counting my wins if I beat the challenge, which I find LUDICROUS and very odd...anyway, my own little rant). Anyways, The eagles are my team. First go around, I am just going to stick to them this go 'round. Next franchise, I will play multiple teams for sure.

Is Garcia still the starter in TB? He was a superstar here in Philly 2 years ago when DMac went down with an injury. The guy can be lights out, and plays with more passion than any other QB out there.

Ramesh

Garcia is still the starter for now. Galloway just came back and Carnell is on the PUP. I'm hoing the Bucs can finish with a winning season - something Gruden has yet to do, back to back.

As for the Eagles - not a big fan. :) I do like McNabb, but I'm a HUGE T.O. fan as Dave knows. I'll be happy to debate, should you feel you want to. :D

Go ahead and add me, if I haven't added you yet. I'm rxmxsh. Don't feel jilted if I don't accept an online game right away - I usually will wait until the weekend when I can play uninterrupted.

lol, this is wrong, obvious, and vague all rolled into one. Good thing it's posted on a technology forum...:laugh2:

Tex

You would know vague, wouldn't you. You use it very well here in you comment.

Nice call out, without any substance or definition what so ever.

Obviously, since I was not the player in the game clip, I do not know exactly what it all was (but, the player who did make that play and posted it here doesn't seem to disagree with my obvious comments). When discussing Madden (or NCAA) games, a Hail Mary is always straight route run by at least 4 receivers (with the option of one slot reciever running an short slant route in some sets). It IS obvious (you are right) that to one posters qustion that it was not a Hail Mary play, but rather a play action pass out of a 2 back set. The QB does roll left out of the pocket, and the WR starts on either a post or hitch route, and then breaks right downfield on a deep slant route. The defense is OBVIOUSLY in a zone defense. The evidence is all there in the film. Yes, everything I stated is OBVIOUS, b/c that is what the evidence in the game play appears to show me. Good eye, champ.

As for my PRO-Level (Easy to Medium level, depending on skill) comment in Madden (Varsity on NCAA), any defense is easy to beat on Pro-Level. Rephrase: It is a cake walk. Zone, which typically can be utilized to break up the deep ball DEPENDING on the formation (is that too vague?), is pretty easy to pick apart for a passer, especially if you can dump off a pass to the right reciever that matches up well with the defensive scheme. Rolling out of the pocket can most certainly give you a better angle on a WR if coverage is locked up, depending on the routes/play scheme. I personally stay in the pocket for as long as possible, and do not roll out typically unless pressured or if my options are locked up by the defense....if I have the time to roll out, most likely someone always opens up. (I tend to roll more often out of play action however, that allows me to get a better angle on slant routes that my WRs are running - typically which are in the same direction as me).

So, what was the point of your post again? I mean, it is just a video game, so I could REALLY care less what your opinion is on my analytical skills on such a meaningless topic (which I fully except make me look like a geek....but then again, we are on a tech forum for iPhones, etc.), but why not entertain me with why I am wrong and vague in your opinion? Lastly, on the OBVIOUS comment front, I am glad it is obvious to you, b/c it should be....it is all in the clip, obviously, and was not too difficult to discern. I was successful in pointing out the obvious, so mission accomplished I guess.

The other comments come from personal experience and exposure. I do not proclaim myself to be a genius in the sport/gaming world, b/c I have a life to attend to the majority of the time. I just watch a lot of the game on Saturdays and Sundays every fall, and play a ton of it on 360 in my free time year round. My viewpoints and my experiences all come from own experience in the game. So, since it is a discussion board, don't be VAGUE, and let me know why I am WRONG in your opinion....I'd really like to hear your VIEWPOINT.

Obviously, since I was not the player in the game clip, I do not know exactly what it all was (but, the player who did make that play and posted it here doesn't seem to disagree with my obvious comments). red = wrong
blue = vague/obvious

A two back set? That's pretty vague. What kind of "two back set" is it?
I'll let Holy Mary go, probably just a typo.
The QB rolls left because it's a bootleg, he's supposed to.
You need to study your WR routes more, that is a 9 route, aka a go, aka a streak. The OP already corrected you on this and you still got it wrong, it's a 9 route but he led the WR to the right with the pass.
Zone defense huh? What kind?

I don't want to get into an argument over the internet, I just thought it was funny that you give the basic of basic info and people start calling you John Madden, lol. Come to think of it, it's actually a good comparison, he has been dubbed "Captain Obvious"!!!:laugh2: I'm just bustin your balls, don't get all butt hurt. Some of us learned football from places other than video games and tv...

First off, I learned the game form playing it in High School. Don't act like you have a special perspective over others.

Obviously, the QB is supposed to in a bootleg/roll out as part of the play action pass being used on that play. I wasn't aware anyone needed that kind of clarification.

A spelling error. Thanks for catching that. Obviously, that was a simple mistake. All those years long ago from Catholic school apparently have ruined my mind.

Since you can not see what position TO was in for the first HALF of thatt play, I do not think you are 100%, as I can not be either, about what route he was running. Moot Point.

You want to get NIT-PICKY about what 2 back set it is? Wow. Simply amazing.

You just want to argue semantics at this point, by the judgment of your response. I never claimed to be a genius about a video game (someone else did, which I kindly dismissed)...i answered a simple question, which you deemed too simple to your personal standards. Good for you, Mr. Obvious, for pointing out the obvious for everyone else. I never claimed to be "Madden" (would never WANT to be). All I did was offer some friendly insight to a simple question, which in turn only needed a simple response. That is all it was.

Have a good day, and a nice Holiday weekend. College Football is finally back *sighs in relief*

-You have no idea....

Obviously, the QB is supposed to in a bootleg/roll out as part of the play action pass being used on that play. I wasn't aware anyone needed that kind of clarification.

-You made it seem like some sort of genius strategy to get a "good angle" on the WR. Now some poor kid is going to go home and try to "roll out" with Tom Brady because you made it sound like a good idea.

A spelling error. Thanks for catching that. Obviously, that was a simple mistake. All those years long ago from Catholic school apparently have ruined my mind.

-I was kidding, which is why I jokingly said I'd "let it slide"

Since you can not see what position TO was in for the first HALF of thatt play, I do not think you are 100%, as I can not be either, about what route he was running. Moot Point.

-I can tell what route it is, and even if you can't, the OP already told you what it was. Read his answer to your post on the first page. Not a moot point.

You want to get NIT-PICKY about what 2 back set it is? Wow. Simply amazing.

-I just thought if you wanted to give info and sound smart, then give info and sound smart. If someone asks me what the iphone can do my response wouldn't be "it makes calls". Besides, no one even asked what formation it was, it just sounded (or read) like you wanted to sound smart by throwing that unnecessary (and extremely vague/un-informative) comment out there. BTW, you still never answered MY question...

You just want to argue semantics at this point, by the judgment of your response. - The question : "was that a hail mary", the response should've been "no, it wasn't" all the other stuff wasn't needed, seemed like you were trying to look smart about football and assumed since you were on a tech forum that would be possible. Well, football coaches have iphones too.

-Again, I wish you could see the smile on my face. I'm just razzing you, ya know, like I would my buddies.

Have a good day, and a nice Holiday weekend. College Football is finally back *sighs in relief*
